The State of Me

in #life6 years ago

A whole lot of people a lot smarter than me have prognosticated at great length about the State of Steem, and the State of the Nation (you can insert any name there you like) and the State of the State (again with the name option) and on and on and on as we enter the first day of the Momentous year of 2019.

Bull Puckus. It means little to me. My real interest is the state of Tom. Everything else is just exactly tied for second place at best.

I’m listening to the Who Boys singing “Won’t Get Fooled Again” only I’m hearing ‘Meet the New Year, same as the old year…’

So, I’ve been on Steemit almost exactly one year (Thursday) and I’ve made some dubious decisions along my way. I wouldn’t exactly call them mistakes, because they ended up getting me right here, right now. And right here, right now is a pretty damn fine spot.

The fun and games around here have been great, but the real treasure is the PEOPLE. With all the ups and downs the consistent best has been the people I’ve met.

As much as the herd has thinned over the last year the people that are dedicated to making this place better are legion! Not to mention outstanding.

Things ARE happening. Just today I’ve read about two possible substitutes for SMTs (which have been announced as imminent since I’ve been here) that don’t need Steemit to function. People, real people, are making dapps that make the Steem blockchain probably the most dynamic of the whole bunch.

It’s a great time to be involved.

Then there are the individuals. The friends I’ve made, and the just plain good people that I’ve been lucky enough to rub shoulders with. They just make me all squishy inside, which is not my normal state.

With just absolutely minimum effort we are able to help people that are in serious need. This works really well in places like Venezuela and Nicaragua where people can absolutely subsist on their earnings (and our votes and support) but regular people have been helped when they find themselves in extraordinary circumstances.

It’s not widely published, and it’s not real well known, but I am privy to at least three places where people that are thought to be in need can be touted and helped. I know it works, I’ve seen it. It’s just one of the ways ordinary folks help out others here on the blockchain.

Communication is the key. Ask any of my ex-wives and even they would agree with me. With reservations, you can be sure. But the point is, we are just starting to exploit discord to something near it’s potential. It’s free and easy, and people can talk. One on one or group situations, it just doesn’t matter. It works and it’s easy.

On this first day of 2019 the State of Tom is pretty good. It could be better, I guess, but the truth is I believe that it is just as it should be. There is excitement ahead and my life promises to be just exactly as rich and full as I will allow it. I think I’ll play!

Happy new year man.

True the real joy is the people one meet on the steem blockchain.

Steem blockchain is blessed with both creative and lovely minds.

Thank you! I just could not agree with you more!

What a great post @bigtom13! I have to agree with you on the friendship side! I have always avoided the social media thing...never being a fan, but I have to say Steemit is different! I have met so many kind, supportive, funny and caring people all over the world! Glad to know you! Here's to 2019....and oh btw those mountains look amazing a backdrop for your bike :)

Thank you. Those hills are the very beginning of the Snake River Breaks on the border between Oregon and Idaho. You go up pretty fast from the river level and there is some wild and wooly country between there and the top of the Mesa. Hell's Canyon falls into that category...

congrats on almost one year on Steem ... Steemit is just a front end just like Steempeak or Busy... we're really all on Steem

I agree. I was sorta trying to convey two things. A: I started on Steemit and it took a while to figure out the difference even though I bought Steem the first day. B: I'm not just really over the moon happy with Steemit or Busy right today :)

I am in synch with you in this if the State of oneself isnt good it doesnt matter that much about any other States

Congratulations on your upcoming Milestone of one year on Steemit

Thank you! And you said it so well: If you aren't doing well, nobody is. I really treasure your friendship!

As I treasure your friendship and having meet you on here

I wish you a happy and prosperous New Year! I think it is going to be exciting especially with all of the stuff that is happening with Steem and Adsactly. It probably won't impact what I do on Steemit, but it will be exciting to see it all unfold.

Thank you! Happy New Year to you and Mrs, Bozz too. I really am excited to see what's coming.

I had no doubt the State of Tom was is in good shape. I see it everyday in the comments and posts. Thanks for the mention too.

Thank you for all you do and say. One of my treasures to be sure.

I love this post - it's very you and very very much full of wise words. You're a great guy to get to know and I'm super glad we are friends :-) Have an amazing 2019 dear Tom!

Ahhh, my friend. Thank you. My friends here are indeed a treasure to me, and you are a Ruby to be sure. I'm just so thankful to have met you and to get to interact with your amazing self.

Well said!!!! The relationships and friends made through our time here on Steemit have been the backbone of what keeps many of us active and engaged. I treasure the great people I have met along the way and feel lucky that you are one of them. Communication is so important and you are right about how discord has been a bridge between all of us.

Happy New Year my friend!!!

Thank you. Friends like you are the absolute treasure of this place!

Very well said. Glad to see the State of Tom is holding up well. Happy new year.

Oh, man. It's really good to see you! You have been missed. Seriously. I hope all is will with you and yours and wish you a Happy New Year. Give Kiku as special scratch for me, will you?

Howdy sir bigtom13! haha.."Ask any of my ex-wives and even they would agree with me." That's a great line. Well sir, I'm thankful that brilliant people are creating ways for apps to work on the Steem blockchain, that's very good news indeed and thank you for sharing that.
Is that your hometown there, some dusty little place in Arizona?
What three places are there that people can be helped?

I'm guessing those three women wouldn't agree on much BUT that :)

Watch our mutual friend SultnPapper carefully, he seems to curate those in need.
A South African named @jaynie is another that is always helping somebody.
And Adsactly. Not as direct policy, mind you, but some individuals stand ready to help our fellow citizens in need. I'm also sure that PAL does that same service. Good folks.

haha! I'm laughing at the three women comment. Yes sir I know jaynie and am a member of her steemitbloggers. There are many good people helping tons of people around the world, that alone is a good enough reason to keep the platform open and I sure hope it stays in operation. thanks for getting back to me sir bigtom13!
