The Extraordinary Importance Of Doing Absolutely Nothing (Part II)

Yesterday I talked about how many people in our society have convinced themselves to forever be productive and/or to use their time in a manner where every moment they spend doing anything, has the potential to become a memory that they will remember forever.

I talked about how when applied to our real everyday life, the adoption of this belief can be harmful to your both, mental and physical well-being, and how we need to allow ourselves to take a real break from time to time so as to avoid getting overwhelmed from the world around us.

In the previous part, I focused mainly on explaining why 'doing nothing' should be one of our priorities and a decision that we consciously make for our own selves; this applies especially to the ones who find themselves struggling with work anxiety and often feel stressed-out.

For this part, we'll be seeing how doing nothing at times, can actually help you reach your goals faster and to gain more energy for doing the things that you want to do but often find yourself drained and tired to get up.

Don't Run Blind In Pursuit Of Success

Look, I get it. You have a dream and you want to chase after it, even if it takes away all your time and energy. That's perfectly reasonable and also quite inspiring, to be honest. But as good as it sounds, that idea has some major flaws.

If you are constantly tiring yourself out in the hunger of wanting to achieve something, you will be going a lot slower than you would have if you gave your body and your mind the rest and the resources it desperately needs to keep running.

And if you gave in all your time to just one part of your life, you would create an imbalance on the platform where all your priorities stand, and eventually you are going to have to make a lot of unneeded sacrifices, as you see your other priorities falling apart.

If you genuinely want to chase after a goal, you have to give your mind the time that it needs to think, understand, and process all the rapid changes that are happening in your life. Only then, will you be able to stay focused and determined.

Motivation Is A Tricky Business

A while ago, I posted an article explaining why motivation is not something you should count on when chasing big things in life. The same idea applies here as well. We humans just simply don't feel motivation as a long-term source of energy.

Instead, we require constant motivation from the outside world in order to keep on doing the things that we want to do. In simple words, we long for short-lived excitement, when we should rather be longing for a consistent long-term solution.

Surprisingly, doing nothing on the other hand, gives you the energy to do a lot more later. It gives you the pause that you need in order to help you build focus, and it does that by letting your mind wander carefree first, so it can allow you to handle the worries of life later.

The best part, it doesn't come from the outside world but from within. You don't need any expertise from anyone to know when you are exhausted and when you need that precious downtime to clear off your thoughts and let yourself feel free.

Sounds dreamy, I know. But somehow, it just makes sense. Your mind won't let you think of anything else if the only things you feed it with are stress and anxiety of work and the want of remembering every moment of your life. Just take it easy here and there, will ya?
