CLOSE TO THE CREATURES WITH JACOB — LIBRARY EDITION!

in #library9 years ago (edited)

Today at one of the libraries in our network, the summer reading program of the day involved reptiles. I even made a new best friend!

Yes, that is an alligator.

Yes, it is on my head.

No, there were no chompings.

However, upon being first held up by the speaker, this gator... uh... voided its bladder... while being displayed to the crowd, dousing all the kids in the front row with reptile urine.

Like I said, new best friend!

I was also able to get a good photo of this African spurred tortoise that was allowed to prowl the library during the meet-and-greet session after the speech.

There were also several snakes and lizards, but I was not able to get photos of all the critters discussed because not all were exactly this friendly, and I didn't have a close-up view during most of the speech. However, the bearded dragon was apparently amenable to handling by children.

All told, the kids seemed to have fun, and the presentation was informative. Check out www.reptileman.com! And don't worry. There's a note on the site saying, "ALL VENOMOUS SNAKES ARE SURGICALLY DEVENOMIZED AND THE REPTILE MAN HAS FULL LIABILITY INSURANCE WITH HARTFORD INS."

So, @generikat, what's your library tale to one-up this? The pressure is on! And sorry for borrowing your title format, @papa-pepper!

Hahahahahahahahaha!!!! LOLOLOLOL!!!!

I see the Library Wars are in full swing... :D

Seriously, great story, fine fotos, and I love the hat! :O

Do you get hazardous duty pay?

😄😇😄

@creatr

Hmm...I was blissfully unaware that we had entered into librarian one-upmanship combat, but as you fired the opening shot wearing an alligator hat, well, it is on.

There was no begrudging the awesomeness of the gator hat, however, there is now a grudge.

Also, the cuteness of the gator hat was sorta marred by the presence of an outcast mannequin, but who am I to judge. Just sayin.

It is ALWAYS one-upmanship. That's why we play games like MTG, Frag, Fluxx, and Munchkin, right?

No hazard pay. No overtime bonus. No holiday pay. No paid vacation. Woe is me, and my budget!

I already sent the Kat a pic with the gator-hat. She (doubtless grudgingly) acknowledged its awesomeness!

Sorry to hear about your dismal negotiating skills. I may be doing a Steemit series on negotiation at some point. ;)

The awesomeness of the alligator hat is indisputable. ;D

It is a part-time tax-funded job. There isn't room to negotiate with the bureaucracy.

Ah, time to found the Idaho Free Library... ;)

@jacobtothe,
That's great photography and nice experience as well. But personally I hate reptiles :D

Anyway thanks for sharing your experience with the STEEM community! Really appreciate it!

Cheers~

I like snakes, lizards, turtles, and the like, provided they aren't presenting a threat.

@jacobtothe,
That's nice but in my country most of snakes are deadly beasts... So hate to see them :D

The climate here isn't quite right for rattlesnakes, thank goodness.

Nice activity, happy to read kids enjoyed watching the creatures.

Omg the alligator was on your head!!! Thats scary. As far as the other animals i love em, especially the turtle.

The gator was chill.

A peeing gator? I'm sure that added to the entertainment. This looks a lot more interesting than any library programs I can remember...

Cool critters ... back before Disney and Seaworld invaded Florida, there were tourist attractions in every town. Gators, snake, monkeys, birds, you name the animal and someone was selling tickets to see them in small family owned tourist trap. And children love to see animals.

I wonder how people are not sacred:( jeez I would stay away atleast 10-15 footsteps from it!hahah , Great post!
