Potential strategy for bloc voting for Libertarians.

in #libertarianism6 years ago

If libertarians - including low-information libertarians - could be persuaded to vote as a bloc, which I don't think they can be, then the following strategy seems optimal to me, in terms of not requiring much information and yet potentially yielding good results:

  1. Vote against all tax increases and bond issues. The government takes more than enough already.

  2. Vote in favor of any initiative that lets people open new businesses, removes regulations on existing businesses or personal activities, or lets people use their property in ways that are now forbidden.
(Yes, one can imagine that some laws of this type are also of the sort that violate the harm principle. But (a) harm-principle-violating ballot initiatives are unlikely to make it to the ballot in the first place, and (b) they are unlikely to pass, even with libertarian support, so the low-information voter doesn't have to worry too much about them.)

  3. Always vote for term limits.

  4. Vote against any initiative that does not unequivocally further the above-mentioned ends.

  5. When voting for candidates, always vote in the way that is most likely to divide the government unless...

  6. ...unless a genuine libertarian is running on a major party platform. If so, support that person. A libertarian bloc's support for a major party candidate could theoretically be decisive. But a libertarian bloc's support for a minor party candidate will do nothing at all. (Also, the LP just nominates way too many nutcases. As we all should know by now.)

I so much love democracy, it gives power to the people. They and they only, have the power to make changes; create better lives for themselves and decide how things would be run.
