The Explorer's Petchabun Diaries - Khao Kor's Obliques

in #landscapephotography7 years ago (edited)

Working as a teacher is a fantastically rewarding job and there certainly isn't anytime for 'clock watching', but it does take it's toll and unwinding from the confines of the school walls is a necessity. Without a break you'll end up being a facilitating android, lacking the patience and empathy required to nurture young minds. But luckily the most magnificent perk of being a teacher in an international school is the amount of holiday time we receive. I have three weeks off for the Christmas holidays, making it the perfect opportunity to travel, escape the hyper speed life of the city and inhale a year's worth of fresh air. My family and I live in Bangkok, sometimes the humidity and pollution make the air feel thick as if you could slice through it with a knife! It was time to escape and we had hatched our escape plan.

So, we had set our sights on Petchabun sending us about five hours north of Bangkok and into an unknown paradise, which we instantly fell in love with. We ventured and spent the duration of the trip, navigating around the 'smooth' windy roads of Khao Kho, 'Khao' is the name for mountain in Thai. The mountain spoiled us with heavenly views, fresh breezes and a gateway for our minds to escape the cruel mistress of 'The City of Angels'.

For this trip we were graced with the presence of my mother and sister-in-law. We were blessed with the razor-sharp driving skills of my sister-in-law, who captained our vessel throughout our trip! So the car had all three of the explorer family in the back and there were points when my rear carriage had become numb, as if an anaesthetist had won the lottery and my buttocks were the ticket! It was at this point as I gazed out the window I spotted this transmitting tower, I loved how the red and white of its structure juxtaposed against the lush green of the mountainside.

Eye opening vibrancy of Khao Kor's obliques

After capturing this first shot we jumped back into the car (my eyes were keen, but my posterior was indifferent). We moved onto another viewpoint that my super sister-in-law had already planned out. Which was followed up by another stunning view at the restaurant we rested at for a quick refuelling .

A picturesque view as a starter as we ate a relaxing lunch. The red roof you can see on the left was one of many private dining rooms, which had the premiere views, but as you can imagine these were all taken or reserved!

Thank you for checking out my blog fellow Steemians, I really do appreciate it. There is plenty more to come, Petchabun truly was a visual delight. Please upvote and follow, if you would like to see more wonders of Thailand!

Merry Christmas as well! :)

Cool post as usual. I like how your posts are about places that aren't Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

Can be difficult sometimes, as I live in Bangkok! But we visited loads of places in Petchabun, so I shall have loads of photos and stories to come!

Three weeks off woo hoo! How long you been teaching in Bangkok?

About 8 years now and there are sssssssoooo many more places to visit!
