More than half a hundred villages of five unions of Habiganj's Nabiganj upazila have been flooded due to hill slopes and continuous rains coming down from upstream. Communication system is already closed in some places. If the water rises further, there is a risk of water entering Bibiana Power Plant and Bibiana Gasfield.

Locals said that the water of the Kushiara river has increased and is flowing over the boundary line due to the continuous rains of the last few days and the mountain landslides coming down from the upstream. As a result, the flood control dam of the Kushiara river overflowed and water entered various places in that upazila. The Sunamganj-Jagannathpur-Aushkandi regional highway of Inatganj union has been submerged and water is rapidly entering several villages including Kasba village, Kasba Bazar.

The flood is taking a terrible shape as the water rises rapidly. Common people are living inhuman life. Helpless people are running to safe shelter. All educational institutions have been declared shelters by the administration.

It can be seen on the ground that 15-20 paved roads including the paved road of Mostapur Pathanhati village of Inatganj, the paved road of Dighalbak village have sunk under water. Bibiana, one of Asia's gas fields located in Inatganj and Bibiana 400 MW power generation plant located in Parkul are in a dangerous condition. Current water is 2-3 feet below Bibiana gas field. However, due to the rapid rise of water and the proximity of the river, the locals are afraid of water entering the gas field.

Nabiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Anupam Das Anup told Jago News that Kushiara river water is flowing 19 cm above the flood limit at Sherpur point. Flood affected people are coming to shelters. 14 shelters have already been opened. We are always ready to help people.
