Asmadale Caves still inhabited by humans

=============================
Asmadala is a province full of hills belonging to Kegalle district. Urakanda and Vakirigala mountain rocks can be seen in the background of the village. This village, full of cows and rice paddies until it is surrounded by greenery, is very prosperous even today.
The legend about the origin of the name Asmadala is related to prehistoric times. While the Ravana kings were hunting, they saw a huge boar. Scared by the sound of the kings preparing their bows, the king's attendant demon ran away. When the king saw the devil who ran away from him and was staring at him without caring, he got angry and took a shot at him too.

Legend has it that the devil fell into a mud pit after filtering the blood - there it was wet with blood and blood flowed from every corner, so it became 'As Mada Le' and then it was called 'Asmadala'. It seems that Ravana, the king, is known as Yaksha and the rest of his army are called Yaksha.
In later times, the kings who came to Malaya in search of safety have hidden and organized armies in this area. In that way, another legend says that the area where the horses were trained became 'Asmadala'. According to the information found by studies in the later period, this area has been inhabited by humans since the past.
Asmadala is about 15 km from Mawanella. You can turn from Ussapitiya junction on Mawanella-Aranayaka road and go to Asmadala through Galatara- or you can come from Kegalle-Bulathkohupitiya road and turn from Hettimulla Gamsabha junction and come through Diwela- Several stone caves where humans lived in the prehistoric period and a burial place were found in Asmadala a few years ago.
Asmadale Purana Near Ambalam, the Asmadale Purana Temple is found a little further on a slightly hilly road that goes up through the village. From there, most of the rock caves are located on the Urakanda slope in the upper part of the mountain - we found out that a family was living in one of the rock caves a little below the mountain slope until recently, so we first went to find that cave - we met Mr. Prematilaka who was living in that cave on the way to get information from him. We were able to-
"Archeology came three or four times a month - they said to continue to protect - there were people in the upper caves too - the responsible people came and asked all the people in the caves to leave - but they can't go at once. We stayed in this cave until the houses were built. The inscription in the cave said that you can cook inside the cave so that the smoke does not seep in - that's why we built a stove outside the cave - it was years ago when officers came and told us to leave the caves -" he said in that way.
After that we went to see that cave. The walls surrounding the caves had not yet been removed. Inside the cave, rooms were separated and a separate kitchen was built and the cave was used wonderfully. We also got to see the very unclear inscription on the cave floor - later when searching for information in the book, the meaning of the letter was mentioned as 'Shuma Terah Cave' - which meant that some chief had offered this cave to Lord Shuma in the past - the pre-human was alive. However, it shows that the caves were offered to the Sangha in later times.
If you want to see the other stone caves, you have to go further up through the village - it is very difficult to find these caves without knowing the information - and some caves are located on private lands - so it is better to ask the people who know in the village and visit them - close to the houses We saw that some of the caves located in Venna have been used in various ways even today-
As you pass the houses and go further up, at one point on the left side of the road, you can see a rather large rock - if you go to the other side of the rock through a gap between another rock, you will see a land full of rocks. Some of the caves there are formed by a stone slab at the top - one such cave seen at the corner can see a long inscription on the stone slab on the right side - we could not find out what it says.
When you come back to the road near these caves and go a little further, you will see a land cultivated with earrings on the right side. After going a little higher, we saw another wonderful stone cave with a wonderful location - inside the cave, you can see a small siripathula cut out in the middle of the rock - it is also special to see shapes similar to the line drawings of the ancient human paintings in the cave of Warakapola door belonging to Kegalle district -
Another valuable archaeological evidence was found in the nearby village of Vattegedara, which showed that there were early human settlements in the area around Asmadala and that these humans lived in the caves around Urakanda at that time.
It was found that the dead person's ashes and other things were placed in a small pot, a pit was cut and buried, and the grave was covered with stones. It is to highlight
