@killerwhale's Karaoke Contest Entry - Adele's 'Make You Feel My Love'
This is my entry for week 39 of @killerwhale's Karaoke Contest. I feel like I should get extra credit for trying to sing Adele—that takes guts, right? 😉
As most people who know me are aware, I love to sing, but I have two modes: distracted singing while I do other things, and choral singing. I sing bass in choir, and that means there's not a wide range of pop music I can sing in it's intended range.
I like to do karaoke, but I get stage fright. For this video, I did about 14 takes, most of which sucked because I was feeling anxious and self-conscious—this was the best one.
Here's the original song on Youtube:
Here's the backing track I used: link

Also, bass? Wat? I heard some contraltos can sing super low but bass??!?
Yup, bass! I sang alto in high school, and soprano in a community choir I was in, but after hormones I sing bass. I tried tenor, and it was awful. I’m going to make a bad karaoke entry of me singing this song in Adele’s range—it’s pretty atrocious, and I make all these weird faces in it, as basses tend to do when we’re reaching too hard at the top of our range. My falsetto sucks, tbh.
It’s actually not unheard of among sopranos to become tenor or even bass as they get older. Because bodies are weird, lol.
Not to shut you down but My principle instrument is voice and i have a degree in music which focused in vocal pedagogy. It is rare even to be a true alto, let alone a contralto. Also.. you are not that old. I'm 37 and while my voice has matured in the low end, and i can extend my range a little if I practice a lot-- there is no way i can sing bass unless its actually a tenor part and it has a super range? Do you know what your lowest note is? Just curious. Love yaaaaa ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ohh after hormones as in... you took hormone supplements?
I did take hormones, because genderqueer. And I suppose I should say that I have met and know of other people whose voices have changed (without hormones). And, yes, I’m not that old. shrug
My lowest note is f below bass clef.
Not to be nitpicky, but I said it was not unheard of. Since I have heard of it, my words are literally true. So...Screw it, whatever. Just feeling defensive about my voice. Feel free to disregard this comment. Me feeling trans feelings about my own safety, whatever.
I'm sorry!! I did not get the memo that you were gender queer! 😵 I am always defensive about my musical knowledge. People never know that its the one thing i have expertise in. I'm a jerk tho. I'm sorry I wasn't thinking.
No, it’s fine. I spent like waaaaaaaaayyyy too long on this post, and I have a lot of self-consciousness about sharing this kind of thing, as well as my sort of ever-present fear of being curb-stomped by nazis. So publicly sharing my gender stuff always makes me suuuuuuuper anxious. But it’s all good—we’re cool. 😊
Yay but also fuck nazis s!!!
Btw if Bob Dylan can sing it- anyone can.
