Freedom

The subject of this quest is one I think that is really important.. One of the most important things actually.. "Freedom" or the quality of being "free" Free in etymology is believed by some to mean "To love". And I think that's a good description/definition. Cause if you truly love someone or something, you set it free right?

A small Bonus question: How do we help freedom grow in the world? I'll give a bonus 1SBD to the person who I think answers that question best.

Not an easy topic to cover fortunately @apolymask has always given us the freedom to interpret the challenges... Your entry doesn't have to have anything to do with politics or writing, it could be a song or a drawing or a movie or just about anything you can think of,...so here is my entry.

I think by now a lot of people know I like music, I may not be able to play an instrument, or to sing, but I do enjoy the freedom of being able to listen to music. Here is a song by Janis Joplin that was from my early music forming years, I liked it then, and I still like it:

Hitchhiking was a very common thing in the late 60's early 70's, and was a means of transportation for many young people. It gave people the freedom to roam, to travel and to, for a short time in their lives, not be burdened by thoughts of tomorrow. They were for a very short time in their lives Free to do and go as they pleased.

"Sir Elton John", if you have not listened to the whole album, you really have missed out on some good music.

Another one of early songs that has stayed with me for all times. What has it to do with freedom? To me is is all about freedom, not letting another tie you down, not letting another put you on a path you do not want to travel, whether is a friend a family member, a lover, or society. It is about making choices that we want to make, of reconciling, and correcting the mistakes of our past.

Freedom

What does it mean, is like in the movie "Brave Heart", or "The Patriot"? is it in a song like one of those above?...Freedom is what we as individual assign ourselves. I don't want to go into the politics of it, for every individual the definition of Freedom is going to be different. For me it varies, and has varied over time, it comes to mean a lot of different things. For right now, Freedom means I can write this post and share it with people all over the world.

The Bonus Question How do we help freedom grow in the world?

For me it is a simple answer, we share a part of our lives with the people of the world, we share our thoughts with the people of the world, we accept the offer of sharing from other people of the world, we look at and accept their words of how it is in their country. We do not go on a rant of misdirected self righteousness toward our neighbors just because they think differently about a subject. Their society is no more wrong than our society, or Hantz Jr's society, or Mr Kim's society, or Franco's society. or the bloke down under's society. Society starts out small, Family, then it grows to community, then town, city, county, state, country, and then the world. All those levels of society are different and have their own boundaries, we learn about the boundaries, then we learn how we can accept them.

Some good music! You listen to a lot of the same kinda stuff my father does, I remember some of this from working in the shop with him over the years.. And I grew to enjoy it. Also some of what you said about the freedom to travel was great.

I like this part, but.. I tend to think some societies are more benevolent than others.. That's not to say that it will always be that, they aren't fixed or static and societies just like people can always improve and be better.

Though I definitely agree that we need to share more! Reach out to people who are foreign to us and try to get to know them and bridge the gap, a lot of people are vilified or feared just cause they are different, but once we talk to each other and get to know each other I think that really brings a lot of the walls and barriers down! And I think that's one of the most important things we can do in the world to help bring peace, is to.. Sort of.. Talk to each other and get to know each other and share our lives and "commonalities" and try to find common ground that we can build around.. Anyways.. I'ma shush before i rant too much, heh.. But.. Cool entry! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and music choices. :)

haha sometimes I wish i grew up in the 60s or 70s just to imagine what it was like. Just like kids now I'm sure will think the same of us born in the 90s! I could imagine with the hitchhiking I know even in New Zealand now it's really popular.

When me and @josefinemk were there last year we probably picked up a dozen people and got picked up just as many times. Some great memories were shared on those rides and you met some great people. I feel like from that I got a glimpse of what it was like back then just with some better music then!

One day you will look back on the music you grew up with, and it will bring fond memories back, and that feeling of freedom you had as a kid and young adult.

Very true! I feel like I'm there now and have to take full advantage of it! I hope to be in asia this time next year! Hopefully teaching english and enjoying the world! Hope the springs coming along nicely back home!

Not sure about Canada, but we here in Alaska are finally beginning to see some signs of spring, the trees are beginning to bud, and a little, (very little) green is beginning to show on the ground. Still no Robins sighted yet, but the chickadees, and sparrows and geese and swans are here, along with the annoying greyjays.

Nothing better then signs of spring and the sound of the birds. Your pictures are awesome. I've already sent the camera to my parents house back home so will be able to share some photos in a month!

You'll have to take some more shots around your sacred spot you posted in that one challenge. Looked like a nice peaceful area!

As the grass turns green and we get real colors bursting through all the dusty browns and greys we will get further into the Mountains. If you want to see an incredible eagle shot, look on my home page, my wife captured two eagles mid flight fight the only evidence of the second eagle is the wings. It's currently at the top of my blog page.

I just checked @bashadow but I think the way the photo gets cropped to fit in the setting you can't see the eagles. Unless there is an alternative way to do it that I don't know about?

So glad you started this post with Janis this song always makes me feel FREE!!!! I loved her free spirit! That to me is freedom! Free from anything that goes against your spirit! Music's always been a way to free your mind, heart, tears, laughter, it truly can be a freeing experience just to allow yourself to be free in the moment. Even for just one song!

I always loved that song, reminds me so much of simpler times were back then, the amount of trust people had in each other, and I was still young, not even in high school yet, it was still one speed bike with banana seat times, of climbing trees, building forts, digging holes, and just have fun as a kid time, but I knew what hitchhiking was, and I new what it meant to the grown-ups of my time, you know the grown ups that were like in their early 20's. But we all grow up, we all see life through different eyes, and some songs take us back to those special times, times when we were still free to dream.

To be free to roam, to become, to live, to dream, to create; those are some of the things the world needs. There are too many chains wound about my knees and hands and I am tired of lying on my side and watching the moon come and go.
