Day Two

You can suffer a few side effects from a juice fast. These can include mild headaches or tiredness and its not always the case. However i did suffer a constant mild headache at the end of the first day. Nothing to worry about and felt great after a good nights rest. Please don't let this put you off as its just your body reacting to the sudden change. To be honest it could also be the lack of caffeine most of us are used to on most days.

8:00 - Ginger, Apple and Mint shot.

When fasting i always start the day with this. It's a real wake up call and fires your metabolism up ready for the day ahead :)

One thing to mention though! Do not brush your teeth for 30mins after drinking a juice. This is also true of any acidic juices, even shop bought fresh orange juice. They can soften the enamel on teeth for a short time, nothing to worry about but prolonged brushing during this time can weaken the enamel. I always brush my teeth after stepping out the shower anyway so not really a big deal. (sorry for the shower mental image haha).

9:00 Romaine, Celery, Broccoli Stem, Cucumber, Apple, Pineapple, Spinach & Avocado

Sorry for the repeat image but for some reason this picture didn't save on my phone...
Anyway its basically the same as the picture above but with the addition of spinach. I mean a large amount of spinach :) Half a bag!! :)
Spinach is a great addition to any green juice. Unprocessed or raw spinach contains amino acids, carotenoids, potassium, iodine, magnesium, iron, Vitamin C, A, E, B Complex and K. So yeah... pretty much a powerhouse when it comes to veg! It also gives the juice a great smooth green look.

Again juice all the vegetables and blend the extracted juice with ice and avocado. This juice tastes as good as it looks :)

12:00 Romaine, Broccoli, Cucumber, Apple, Lime, Ginger, Celery and Kale

This is the same recipe as the one i posted on Day one
Really refreshing and i wanted to have a slightly lighter one as my next juice is a real powerhouse!

15:30 Apple, Beetroot, Carrot, Pineapple & Avocado
This one is AMAZING haha

Most people stop and shout WHAT! when they see you about to juice a beetroot. Thing is these little things are so good for you. Athletes have even started using beetroot juice to improve their performances and there is a lot of scientific evidence to back it up. They contain a large amount of inorganic nitrates. This signals our bodies to increase the size of our blood vessels and increase oxygen flow. Amazing stuff.

Before i juice the beetroot i wanted to show you how amazing the carrot and apple juice looks. Was tempted to have that on its own it looked so nice. I recommend it as a juice in its own right, very nice and satisfying.

Back to the beet!! Check that colour :)

Again i blend with Avocado and ice, makes for a really earthy and smooth juice which leaves you feeling very satisfied and full.

19:00 Romaine, Broccoli, Cucumber, Apple, Lime, Ginger, Celery and Kale

Same as on day one i finish the day with a nice and refreshing juice.

I will be doing a double update today as i was late with this day two update... I will be juicing a sweet potato!! WHAT!! haha

Nice post. Think a lot of people will start following you on this topic

The headaches are almost certainly caused by 2 factors:

Lack of caffeine if you're a big caffeine junky (that'll go away with time though - it's good to "detox" from caffeine every now and then)

And more importantly: protein deficit - this will do very bad things for your health if kept up longterm. 5 days won't cause anything serious though, and if you're doing this just for a challenge or to try something new that's cool but I would caution against keeping up such a diet for a long time.

Apart from the obvious functions of protein in the body (building blocks of muscle and other organs), the amino acids are essential to neurotransmitter function and you can end up with severe mental health issues if you don't get enough aminos.

I'd recommend you try some of those amino acid pills or a bit of whey protein extract mixed in with your juices. Whey is a pretty good source of protein and there's all sorts of products on the market that mix it with some really nice flavours.

Of course you will still get some amount of aminos from the fruit and veg, but it's not really in sufficient amounts to keep you going. Personally I have a protein bar or a Huel drink (see http://huel.me and read my post here on powdered foods - it's awesome) for breakfast most days alongside a multivit, a time-release B complex and some fish oil capsules.

Then I throw a bunch of drugs on top of that - delicious cognitively enhancing drugs (piracetam and modafinil, mmmmm), but that's not something I can really advise most people to take for obvious reasons.

I will say though, some of those juice recipes do look quite awesome in terms of both taste and nutrition - just not as a sole dietary intake!

The apple especially is a good one for the mornings, malic acid is a nice little compound that can replicate some of the stimulatory effects of caffeine without the side effects of cardiac risk and addiction and I often stack it as an ingredient in my own homebrew energy drinks (alongside the usual combo of caffeine, B vitamins and aminos).

Great feedback @garethnelsonuk :)
I also agree this is not a long term solution, this is an intermittent fast and not something i would ever recommend as a full time diet option. That's the reason for the abundance of Romaine in my juices, they are amazing and very under used. Romaine lettuce’s calories are 20 percent protein. Like all whole foods, much of this protein is complete, but the amount can be increased by combining with balancing proteins. They also contain oega 3 and 6 and are alakaline forming. Sure not much of them is fat but simply no reason not to include them.

However i would encourage people to replace a meal with a juice as an ongoing thing. As you say above the nutrition hit from just one of these is simply hard to beat.
