The Japanese bridge to heaven
Hi Steemians! One of the most incredible scenic views in Japan is the land bridge Amanohashidate (天橋立) . It is a naturally formed strip covered in pine trees which encloses a bay:
The name Amanohashidate (天橋立) translates to something like heaven-bridge. The reason why it is called this is because if you look at it upside down then it looks like a bridge between heaven and earth (imagine that the sea/bay represents the sky):
In the photos it might seem that I had to climb a mountain to get this wonderful view but there is actually a cable cart going to a park on top of the mountain. From there you can get a nice view.
You can also walk over the land-bridge itself. One side of the land-bridge is covered in trees and the other side is beach!
Its length is about 3km. If you think that is a bit too much for walking then you can also rent bicycles from shops on both ends of the land-brige.
When I visited Amanohashidate there seemed to few over-seas tourists. In general, the place is not very busy. Everywhere I went I would still see some people but it is certainly not overcrowded. So it is a nice place if you want to escape busy japanese city-life.
How to get there?
The easiest way to get to Amanohashidate is from Kyoto/Nara/Osaka. From there you can take a 2 hour train to Amanohashidate (you might have to switch once). If you want to spend the night it is cheaper to book a place in the city center of Miyazu which is about 3 km away from the land bridge.
Hope I have given somebody some nice travel ideas :o)

Mathowl is a Japan guru, more than sorting out anything maths.
Will the tiny tree strip in the middle of the water submerge if tides get higher?
A Japan post is easy and quick to write for a broad audience :P
The trees normally don't get submerged in the salty seawater otherwise they would die :P
