ecco dunque l'analisi della quindicesima ed ultima giornata di questa fase a gironi dei Mondiali in Russia.
Ieri si sono disputate le ultime partite dei gruppi G e H: Giappone-Polonia e Senegal-Colombia alle 16 e Panama-Tunisia e Inghilterra-Belgio alle 20.

Andiamo a scoprire insieme cosa è successo nei vari campi e quali saranno gli ultimi 2 ottavi di finale che ci aspettano.

Giappone - Polonia 0-1

Si conclude 1-0 per i polacchi la sfida tra Giappone e Polonia andata in scena ieri pomeriggio al Volgograd Arena.
Nella prima frazione i nipponici sono sembrati più in partita rispetto agli avversari europei e hanno impegnato Fabianski in 2 occasioni, tuttavia l'occasione migliore è arrivata dall'altro lato del campo quando un colpo di testa di Grosicki non è entrato di poco in porta (bravo in questo caso Kawashima a deviare tempestivamente).
Nel secondo tempo i polacchi prendono coraggio e vanno a segno subito con Bednarek. A questo punto il Giappone si trova a pari punti e pari rapporto di reti con il Senegal che perde in contemporanea con la Colombia quindi decide di appellarsi al Fair play: i giapponesi tentano di perdere tempo passandosi il pallone nella propria area in attesa del fischio finale. Finirà per l'appunto 1-0 con il Giappone qualificato.

Insomma non proprio una lezione di sport e lealtà quella che ci hanno dato ieri pomeriggio i ragazzi di Nishino.
Onestamente credo che qualificarsi in questo modo non sia giusto, le partite vanno giocate sempre e comunque e l'atteggiamento dei giapponesi negli ultimi minuti di gara non è stato sportivo. Ma va bene così, ora dovranno vedersela con lo spumeggiante Belgio di Hazard e Lukaku agli ottavi: la melina non li potrà aiutare.

Chiude con il sorriso la sua avventura mondiale la Polonia di Nawalka. Una vittoria per l'orgoglio e per cancellare lo 0 dal tabellino dei punti, che avrebbe pesato sulla storia della nazionale. Stecca ancora Lewandoski, una delle peggiori delusioni di questo torneo: unica attenuante per lui il fatto che i suoi compagni non hanno saputo fare meglio.

Colombia - Senegal 1-0

La Colombia non brilla ma vince comunque 1-0 con il Senegal al Samara Arena.
Abbiamo assistito ad una partita piuttosto fiacca e magra di emozioni, complice forse una Colombia un pò appannata.
Nel primo tempo da segnalare solo un rigore prima assegnato e poi annullato (giustamente) dal VAR che ha illuso gli africani. Questi ultimi sono stati più vivaci degli avversari nei primi 45 minuti senza però riuscire ad incidere.
Nel secondo tempo si sono fatti vivi i colombiani nella metà campo avversaria ed hanno cominciato ad esprimere gioco come loro sanno fare (molto bene). Così dopo mezz'ora è arrivata la rete di Mina su colpo di testa da calcio d'angolo che ha fissato il definitivo 1-0 e condannato i senegalesi, fuori dal Mondiale per colpa dei cartellini.

Massimo risultato con il minimo sforzo per la squadra di Pekermann. Il primo posto nel girone è arrivato grazie alla vittoria risicata di ieri e a quella convincente con la Polonia, ma di mezzo c'è anche la sconfitta dell'esordio con il Giappone: in un altro girone forse le cose sarebbero andate diversamente. Adesso c'è da preparare il match con l'Inghilterra, dove sarà vietato sbagliare e servirà la massima concentrazione.

Tanta, tanta amarezza per il Senegal di Cissè che si vede sbattuto fuori dal Mondiale per colpa di qualche cartellino di troppo. Un peccato perché la qualità c'è e la si è anche vista in campo, è mancata forse l'esperienza e la lucidità sotto porta. Certo se il Giappone non avesse fatto la melina...

Inghilterra - Belgio 0-1

Il Belgio si aggiudica il big match del gruppo G con l'Inghilterra, vincendo di misura 1-0 a Kaliningrad.

La prima frazione è stata molto brutta dal punto di vista del gioco, i fischi del pubblico la dicono lunga. Probabilmente le due formazioni hanno dovuto studiarsi l'un l'altra e attendere il colpo dell'avversario per non rischiare di esporsi. O forse entrambe speravano di perdere perché passando da seconda si finisce nella parte del tabellone più agevole.
Fatto sta che nel secondo tempo il Belgio risponde presente e va a segno con un favoloso tiro a giro di un (forse) rinato Januzaj. Gli inglesi tentano timidamente di acciuffare il pareggio in alcune occasioni e il Belgio mette paura agli avversari in contropiede, ma il risultato resta fermo sullo 0-1 fino al triplice fischio.

Dunque una mezza sconfitta per l'Inghilterra di Southgate, che fallisce il primato del girone e si becca la Colombia agli ottavi ma evita nel frattempo il Brasile in un eventuale quarto di finale. Del resto ieri in campo c'erano 8 riserve su 11 titolari, evidentemente il mister aveva già pianificato tutto. Ora però ci sarà da impegnarsi sul serio, soltanto i 3 punti ti portano in cima.

Bottino pieno per Martinez e primo posto nel girone, con lo spauracchio Brasile all'orizzonte. Ma questo sicuramente non sarà un problema per i suoi, che in queste 3 partite hanno dimostrato compattezza e spirito di squadra e sembrano essere determinati ad arrivare il più lontano possibile in questo torneo. Ora c'è da superare l'ostacolo Giappone, squadra poco tecnica ma da non sottovalutare.

Tunisia - Panama 2-1

La Tunisia si aggiudica per 2-1 la sfida tra cenerentole del gruppo G con il Panama del Mordovia Arena.

Il Panama è passato in vantaggio a sorpresa nel primo tempo grazie ad una autorete del tunisino Meriah, sfortunato a deviare nella propria porta una conclusione di Rodriguez da fuori area.
La Tunisia è sembrata inizialmente colpita dal punto di vista psicologico dal gol subito e non è riuscita a reagire prima di andare negli spogliatoi.
Poi nella ripresa i nordafricani hanno cominciato a spingere e a far prevalere la tecnica dei singoli, primi fra tutti Ben Youssef e Kahzri. Proprio dai loro piedi sono scaturiti i gol del 1-1 prima e del 2-1 dopo.
Rimonta completata, il Panama ha cercato disperatamente nel finale di segnare, ma senza successo: il risultato finale è 2-1.

Chiude quindi con una vittoria e abbandona l'ultimo posto la squadra di Maaloul. Il bilancio di questo mondiale è effettivamente negativo, ma se si considera che nel girone c'erano due colossi come Inghilterra e Belgio l'avventura della Tunisia poteva anche andare peggio di così. 5 gol fatti in 3 partite sono anche un buon risultato, a dimostrazione del fatto che la qualità non manca.

Non c'è la fatta Martinez a far conquistare ai suoi il primo punto storico, il Panama chiude così a 0 la sua avventura russa.
Resta la consolazione dei 2 gol fatti, motivo comunque di grande gioia per i Canaleros.
Questo mondiale resterà impresso nelle loro menti, anche perché probabilmente sarà difficile rivedere i sudamericani rigiocarne uno nel futuro prossimo.

Ecco dunque svelati gli ultimi 2 ottavi di finale: Inghilterra - Colombia e Belgio - Giappone.
Lunedì sera alle 20 sarà il turno di belgi e giapponesi, mentre il giorno dopo allo stesso orario toccherà ad inglesi e colombiani.

L'Africa purtroppo non sarà presente in questa fase eliminatoria, dato che tutte le squadre africane in gioco non hanno superato i gironi: uno scenario che non accadeva da più di 10 anni.
Una delusione che fa riflettere sul divario che esiste tra il continente africano ed il resto del mondo, perché diciamocela tutta, è anche una questione di soldi.

Gli ottavi si disputeranno da domani a martedì, poi ci saranno due giorni di stop in vista dei quarti di finale in programma venerdì 6 e sabato 7 luglio.
Insomma, c'è ancora tanta strada da fare per arrivare alla finale di Mosca del 15 Luglio.

Poland - Japan 0-1

The challenge between Japan and Poland that took place yesterday afternoon at the Volgograd Arena ended 1-0 for the Polish. So much, so much bitterness for Senegal of Cissè that sees itself knocked out of the World Championship because of a few cards. A pity because the quality is there and it was also seen on the field, perhaps lacked experience and lucidity under the goal. Certainly, if Japan would have played fair...

England - Belgium 0-1

Belgium has won the big match of group G with England, by winning 1-0 in Kaliningrad.

The first fraction of the game was very unpleasant from the point of view of the game, the whistles of the audience say a lot. Probably the two formations had to study each other and wait for the adversary's blow in order not to risk exposing themselves. Or perhaps both hoped to lose because passing by second you end up against an easier team. Actually, on the second half of the game, Belgium responds and scores with a fabulous shot by a (perhaps) reborn Januzaj. The British timidly try to catch the draw on some occasions and Belgium frightens its opponents in counterattacks, but the result remains firm on 0-1 until the end of the game.

So it was half a defeat for Southgate's England, who failed to get first on its group and will find Colombia in the round of 16 but, in the meantime, avoided Brazil in a potential quarter-final. After all, yesterday there were 8 reserves on the pitch out of 11, obviously, the coach had already planned everything. But now we'll have to make a serious effort, only the 3 points take you to the top.

Martinez got the first place in the group, with the Brazil bogeyman on the horizon. But this certainly won't be a problem for his team, which in these 3 games have shown compactness and team spirit and seem to be determined to get as far as possible in this tournament. Now we have to overcome the obstacle of Japan, a team not so technical but not to be underestimated.

Panama - Tunisia 1-2

Tunisia wins the challenge between Cinderellas of Group G against the Panama of the Mordovia Arena 2-1.

Panama took a surprise advantage in the first half thanks to an own-goal of the Tunisian Meriah, unlucky to deviate in his own goal a conclusion of Rodriguez from outside the area. Tunisia seemed initially psychologically affected by the goal suffered and was unable to react before going to the dressing rooms.
