Viaggio in Camargue - Prima parte/Trip in Camargue - First part (ITA-ENG)

ITA. Ampi spazi, paludi, risaie, natura selvaggia, cavalli bianchi, tori e fenicotteri tutto questo e molto altro è la Camargue.
Sono stato in Camargue diverse volte e negli anni tutto è rimasto come la prima volta, incontaminato.
Il tragitto che compio solitamente è quello che va da Arles a Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer; si prende la statale D570 o Route des Saintes Maries de la Mer e costeggiando il Rodano ci si immerge nel parco naturale della Camargue. Da Arles a Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer ci sono circa 37 km e rispettando i limiti di velocità ci va una mezz’oretta, mi raccomando rispettate i limiti di velocità perché nel tragitto ci sono un paio di autovelox.

ENG. Wide spaces, swamps, paddy fields, wild nature, white horses, bulls and flamingos all this and much more is the Camargue.
I have been in Camargue several times and over the years everything has remained like the first time, uncontaminated.
The journey that I usually do is the one that goes from Arles to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer; you take the state road D570 or Route des Saintes Maries de la Mer and along the Rhône you dive in the natural park of Camargue. From Arles to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer there are about 37 km and respecting the speed limits there is a half hour, I recommend you respect the speed limits because in the way there are a couple of speed cameras.

ITA. Prati sterminati a destra e a sinistra, cavalli bianchi liberi di correre e brucare, mandrie di tori che pascolano pacifici, uno spettacolo incredibile. Ci si può fermare sul ciglio della strada per fare delle bellissime fotografie.

ENG. Meadows exterminated right and left, white horses free to run and graze, herds of bulls grazing peacefully, an incredible sight. You can stop at the side of the road to make beautiful photographs.

ITA. Durante il giorno il viaggio è piacevole, lo è un po’ meno di notte, infatti la strada non ha illuminazione e se non c’è la luna è veramente buio pesto! Di positivo c’è che si può ammirare un bellissimo cielo stellato.
Avvicinandoci a Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer incontriamo una serie di maneggi che propongono promenade à cheval, le passeggiate a cavallo, non l’ho mai fatto ma immagino che dev’essere una bella esperienza.

ENG. During the day the trip is pleasant, it is a bit 'less at night, in fact, the road has no lighting and if there is no moon is really dark! On the positive side, you can admire a beautiful starry sky.
Approaching Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer we meet a series of riding stables that offer promenade à cheval, horse riding, I've never done it but I guess it must be a good experience.

ITA. Da vedere è le Parc ornithologique de Pont de Gau (https://www.parcornithologique.com/) dove avrete la possibilità di vedere da vicino i bellissimi fenicotteri rosa, le flamant rose.
Come ho detto, dopo circa 30 minuti si arriva a Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.

ENG. Worth seeing is the Parc ornithologique de Pont de Gau (https://www.parcornithologique.com/) where you will have the chance to see up close the beautiful pink flamingos, the flamant roses.
As I said, after about 30 minutes you arrive at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.

SAINTES MARIES DE LA MER
ITA. Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer è una località turistica un tempo villaggio di pescatori. È famosa per essere considerata il più importante luogo di pellegrinaggio dei gitani che tutti gli anni il 24 e il 25 maggio, arrivano da ogni parte d’Europa per celebrare la festa si Santa Sarah, la Vergine Nera, patrona di tutti i gitani.

ENG. Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is a tourist resort once a fishing village. It is famous for being considered the most important pilgrimage place of the gipsies that every year on 24 and 25 May, come from all over Europe to celebrate the feast of Santa Sarah, the Black Virgin, patron saint of all Gypsies.

ITA. Molto bella è la chiesa di Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer, esternamente è più simile ad una fortezza che ad una chiesa, all’interno è presente una sola navata e non vi sono particolari ornamenti, c’è anche un pozzo di acqua dolce e la cripta con le statue delle “Marie”.

ENG. Very beautiful is the church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer, externally it is more like a fortress than a church, inside there is only one nave and there are no particular ornaments, there is also a well of fresh water and the crypt with the statues of the "Marie".

ITA. Il nome Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, le Sante Marie del Mare, deriva dalla leggenda che narra delle “Marie” che giunsero dal mare con una barca senza remi, Maria Salome, Maria Jacobé, Maria Maddalena e la serva nera Sarah che è diventata la patrona dei gitani.

ENG. The name Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, the Sante Marie of the Sea, derives from the legend that tells of the "Marie" who came from the sea with a boat without oars, Maria Salome, Maria Jacobé, Mary Magdalene and the black servant Sarah which has become the patron saint of the gypsies.

ITA. Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer è piena di negozi di souvenirs e di ristoranti ma la cosa più bella sono le spiagge.

ENG. Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is full of souvenirs and restaurants but the best thing is the beaches.

ITA. Enormi spiagge di sabbia bianca, pulite e gratuite per noi che dobbiamo pagare per un fazzoletto di sabbia, un vero spasso! Il mare è cristallino, sul fondo tutta sabbia e per chi ha i bambini c’è la tranquillità dell’acqua sempre bassa, per arrivare all’acqua profonda bisogna allontanarsi di diverse decine di metri.

ENG. Huge white sand beaches, clean and free for us that we have to pay for a piece of sand, a real hoot! The sea is crystal clear, on the bottom all sand and for those with children there is the tranquility of the water always low, to get to the deep water you have to move away several tens of meters.

ITA. Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer è molto pulita, le sua case bianche con le imposte azzurre sono caratteristiche del sud della Francia.

ENG. Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer is very clean, its white houses with blue shutters are characteristic of the south of France.

ITA. Noi abbiamo sempre soggiornato al Camping La Brise (https://www.camping-labrise.fr/). Personalmente non amo il campeggio ma le donne di casa (mia moglie e mia figlia) si e quindi…
Il Camping La Brise è un campeggio molto grande e se si va in bassa o media stagione non è per niente caro, si può soggiornare una settimana con meno di 300 euro. Abbastanza pulito, c’è una bella piscina con i giochi per i bambini, il personale e accogliente e c’è l’accesso diretto alla spiaggia. Unico neo sono le zanzare, però bisogna considerare che ci troviamo in una laguna.

ENG. We have always stayed at Camping La Brise (https://www.camping-labrise.fr/). Personally I do not like camping but the women of the house (my wife and daughter) and so ...
Camping La Brise is a very large campsite and if you go in low or medium season it is not expensive at all, you can stay a week with less than 300 euros. Quite clean, there is a nice pool with games for children, the staff is welcoming and there is direct access to the beach. The only drawbacks are the mosquitoes, but we must consider that we are in a lagoon.

ITA. Oltre alla gita a cavallo è davvero molto piacevole la gita con il battello sul Rodano. Si parte dal porto di Saintes Maries e si risale il Rodano dal delta fino nell’entroterra. Anche qui possiamo ammirare la natura incontaminata, uccelli, tori e cavalli liberi.

ENG. In addition to the trip on horseback the boat trip on the Rhône is very pleasant. It starts from the port of Saintes Maries and goes up the Rhône from the delta to the hinterland. Here too we can admire the unspoiled nature, birds, bulls and free horses.

ITA. A Saintes-Maries c’è anche l’arena, dove si tengono spettacoli e vari giochi con i tori e i cavalli, la course camarguese, toro piscine e abrivado.

ENG. At Saintes-Maries there is also the bullring, where there are shows and various games with bulls and horses, course camarguese, toro piscine and abrivado.

ITA. Infine vi segnalo la Fête de la saladelle; detta anche lavanda del mare, la saladelle è una pianta selvatica con cui si ricavano olii e saponi. La festa si tiene i primi di settembre ed è molto sentita dagli abitanti che si vestono con abiti tradizionali e fanno spettacoli danzanti. Ci sono poi le corse dei cavalli, abrivado, e l’esposizione degli animali.

ENG. Finally I point out the Fête de la saladelle; also called sea lavender, the saladelle is a wild plant with which you get oils and soaps. The festival is held in early September and is very much felt by the locals who dress in traditional clothes and do dance shows. Then there are the horse races, abrivado, and the exhibition of animals.

ITA. Questa prima parte del viaggio in Camargue finisce qui, nella seconda parte di parlerò di un’altra bellisima cittadina, Aigues-Mortes.

ENG. This first part of the journey in Camargue ends here, in the second part I will talk about another beautiful town, Aigues-Mortes.
