Continuiamo la visita virtuale del parco con tre rapaci.

Come già detto nell'introduzione al parco tutti gli animali presenti sono di "recupero", queste che vedete sono le generazioni che hanno succeduto nel parco i propri genitori che vi arrivarono 23 anni fa dopo essere sopravvissuti a differenti sventure che li hanno portati a dover vivere forzatamente in questo habitat, ma d'altronde la scelta era ben poca: la vita o la morte.
Questo discorso non vale per tutti loro, come potrete leggere nel proseguo del post alcuni di loro hanno aspettative di vita abbastanza lunghe soprattutto quando si trovano a vivere in cattività.

Facce e mosse buffe per degli uccelli non proprio nel loro habitat naturale, chiusi in gabbie di qualche metro. Sembrano comunque abituati anche loro a presenze estranee, anche perché alcuni sono nati in cattività.

Civetta delle nevi - Bubo scandiacus

Le ho trovate fantastiche, di un bianco candido come la neve con alcune piccole chiazze nere in fondo alle ali una, l'altra tappezzata di piccole macchie nere ovunque a parte sul viso che era totalmente bianco. Stupendi occhioni verdi sparati che ci fissavano e grosse zampe per agguantare le prede. Erano divise in due gabbie differenti, in una c'era una coppia molto pacifica che ci guardava con diffidenza, nell'altra una in solitudine che sembrava incuriosita dal nostro passaggio. Si sono prestate perfettamente come soggetti fotografici muovendosi parecchio, a quella che viveva sola ho potuto creare una Gif per la copertina del post.

Conosciuta in Italia come Civetta delle nevi, nome che deriva dalla saga di libri e film "Harry Potter" ma in realtà uno studio sulla sequenza cromosomica (Olsen et al. 2002) ne ha rivelato la vicinanza con gli altri gufi del genere Bubo.
Ha una vita media di 10-15 anni. È anche l'uccello ufficiale del Québec.
Misura fino a 65 cm di lunghezza e arriva a pesare oltre 2 kg, ha un apertura alare di 160 cm.
Si ciba di lemming, piccoli roditori e di arvicole. Durante la caccia è capace di restare immobile durante il volo in un punto preciso battendo velocemente le ali.

Barbagianni - Tyto alba

Leggiadro e di classe. Sono di colori particolari e diversi sulle ali e sopra la testa, il corpo ed il viso bianchi come il latte. Occhi perennemente chiusi, anche perché sono animali notturni e non penso gli faccia molto piacere essere infastiditi da umani curiosi durante il giorno quando dovrebbero dormire. Nel nostro piccolo abbiamo cercato di disturbarli il meno possibile, qualche scatto e via...mi han fatto davvero tenerezza, vedere volatili non poter usare le loro ali deve essere per loro simile a quella che penso si possa paragonare ad una tortura.
Soggetti fotografici abbastanza immobili che non hanno prestato molti problemi in quanto a movimenti perché stavano rintanati nell'angolo più alto della propria gabbia girando la testa verso di me.

Il Barbagianni ha una vita media di circa 2 anni ma in cattività può arrivare anche fino a 17.
Arrivano a misurare fino a 39 cm di altezza, pesano attorno ai 300 grammi ed hanno un'apertura alare di 80-95 cm.
Sono dei superpredatori che si nutrono di arvicole, rane, insetti, ratti, sorci e talpe.
Torna dunque utile all'economia dell'uomo eliminando gli ultimi due.
Hanno un grido acuto molto riconoscibile fastidioso alle orecchie.
Stridono come quella che può sembrare una pentola a vapore.
Se vengono catturati o costretti in un angolo sentendosi intrappolati si mettono supini e sgambettano.

Gufo Reale - Bubo Bubo

Maestoso e regale. Sguardo intenso ed occhi rossi, sembrava concentrato e che non desse molto peso alla mia presenza con un'apparente aria di superiorità. Nome che gli si addice molto, ho trovato che abbia quel non so che di sangue blu al quale poco importa di chi gli stia vicino. Sono rimasto ad ammirarlo alcuni minuti nei quali ho potuto fare una ventina di scatti ma le pose da lui assunte sono state pochissime.
Un mix di color crema e nero che lo tempestano sul viso e su tutto il corpo.

Si ciba di topi, ratti, piccoli mammiferi. Preda anche altri uccelli, in particolare galli e fagiani. Come gli altri rapaci notturni ingoia intere le prede di piccole o medie dimensioni; le parti non digeribili (ossa, penne, peli, parti chitinose degli insetti) vengono rigettate sotto forma di "borre" di forma allungata con diametro di 3–4 cm.
È la specie di gufo più grande con un'apertura alare da 1,60 fino a 2.5 metri per le femmine, l'altezza varia dai 65 agli 80 centimetri. Arriva a pesare fino a 2,80 kg per i maschi e 4,20 kg per le femmine.
Nel suo habitat naturale può vivere fino a diciannove anni, alcuni gufi tenuti in cattività invece hanno superato il sessanta anni di vita.

Let's continue the virtual visit of the park with the Birds of Prey

As mentioned in the introduction to the park all the animals that lives there are "recovery", these that you see here are the generations who have succeeded to their parents who arrived there 23 years ago after having survived different misfortunes that led them to having to live forcefully in this habitat, but then the choices wasn't too much: life or death.
This doesn't apply to all of them, as you can read later on the post some of them have quite long life expectations especially when they find themselves living in captivity.

Funny faces and moves for birds not really in their natural habitat, closed in cages a few meters. They also seem to be used to foreign presences, also because some were born in captivity.

Snowy owl - Bubo scandiacus

I found them fantastic, of a snow-white with some small black spots at the bottom of the wings one, the other covered with small black spots everywhere apart from the face that was totally white. Superb green eyes shot and staring at us and big legs to catch their prey. They were divided into two different cages, in one there was a very peaceful couple looking at us with suspicion, in the other one alone that seemed intrigued by our passage. They was a perfect photographic subjects because they was moving a lot, to the one who lived alone I could create a Gif for the cover of the post.

Has an average life of 10-15 years. It is also the official bird of Quebec.

Barn Owl - Tyto alba

Fairy and classy. They are of particular and different colors on the wings and above the head, the body and the face white as milk. Eyes perpetually closed, also because they are nocturnal animals and I do not think it makes me very happy to be bothered by curious humans during the day when they should sleep. In our small way we tried to disturb them as little as possible, some shots and we went away... they really made me tender, to see birds not being able to use their wings must be similar to what I think can be compared to a torture.
Pretty immobile photographic subjects who did not give much movement problems because they were holed up in the highest corner of their cage, turning their heads towards me.

Royal Owl - Bubo Bubo

I was admired for a few minutes in which I could do twenty shots but the poses taken by him were few.

It feeds on mice, rats, small mammals. Also prey other birds, especially roosters and pheasants. Like other nocturnal birds of prey, it swallows small or medium-sized prey whole; the non-digestible parts (bones, feathers, hairs, chitinous parts of insects) are rejected in the form of elongated "wads" with a diameter of 3-4 cm.
