Drugs, such as LDS or ecstasy, increase brain plasticity which is the brain's ability to generate new synaptic connections between different neurons. These are the conclusions reached by a group of researchers who have tested the effect of these substances on “in vitro” cells. The fact that some drugs could have this effect is a hypothesis already present for many years and it finds now a definitive confirmation. In the future, substances contained in these drugs, could be used to make new medicines against psychic illnesses.
Curiosity found organic molecules
Curiosity rover detected traces of organic molecules on the Mars surface, probably belonging, in the past, to even more complex molecules that would have been destroyed over time by the action of cosmic rays. An important discovery which helps scientists to understand how life could, hypothetically, develop on Mars when climatic conditions were more favorable. Methane was also detected in the planet's atmosphere and a seasonal variation of its concentration was measured. Lots of data, which will be enriched by future missions like ExoMars and which will be able to drill the Martian soil up to two meters below the surface.

If the bees understand zero
Even bees are able to attribute the number 0 to the absence of quantity. A great ability, which in man appears only from the fourth year of life onwards. This is the conclusion reached by two groups of researchers, respectively of the University of Toulouse and RMIT. The experiments made on bees clearly shows that they are able to distinguish the different quantities.

Sono le conclusioni a cui sono giunti un gruppo di ricercatori che hanno sperimentato su cellule in vitro l’effetto di queste sostanze. Che alcune sostanze stupefacenti potessero avere questo effetto è un’ipotesi presente già da molti anni, e ora trova una conferma definitiva. In futuro le sostanze contenute in queste droghe potrebbero essere utilizzate per realizzare nuovi farmaci contro le malattie psichiche.
Molecole organiche su Marte
Il rover Curiosity ha rilevato sulla superficie marziana le tracce di molecole organiche, un tempo probabilmente appartenenti a molecole ancora più complesse. Quest’ultime sarebbero state distrutte nel tempo dall’azione dei raggi cosmici. Una scoperta importante, che aiuta gli scienziati a capire in che modo la vita abbia potuto, ipoteticamente, svilupparsi su Marte quando le condizioni climatiche erano più favorevoli. Nell’atmosfera del pianeta è stato inoltre rilevato metano ed è stata misurata una variazione stagionale della sua concentrazione. Tantissimi dati, che saranno arricchiti dalle missioni future come ExoMars, che sarà in grado di trivellare il suolo marziano fino a due metri sotto la superficie.

Anche le api sono in grado di attribuire il numero 0 all’assenza di quantità. Una capacità non banale che nell’uomo compare solo dal quarto anno di vita in avanti. Questa è la conclusione a cui sono giunti due gruppi di ricercatori, rispettivamente dell’Università di Tolosa e del RMIT. Dagli esperimenti fatti sulle api emerge chiaramente che queste sono in grado di distinguere le diverse quantità, tra cui appunto lo zero, ovvero la quantità nulla.
