Sponsored Writing Contest for IONChain.org
I'd like to thank @originalworks and IONChain for their sponsored writing contest, I hope you like all the ideas you'll get from this contest! It's a great idea and wish IONChain a lot of success. Here are the contest details if any of my followers are interested.
IONChain is a not-for-profit organisation whose project aims to standardize the data for the Internet of Things. Their blockchain project has the vision “One Device, One Coin, One Code" which would inspire device makers to adopt the project's communication parameters which would not only allow for huge benefits in cross-device communication, but also help manufacturers raise standards to ensure data securty.
I don't think anyone on the planet can fully realise the impact IoT will have on the world. We're heading into a world where we'll have all the power we'll ever need, without harming the environment, we'll be able to make most of the things we need at home and automation for those items we can't 3d-print will bring costs right down, and the very future of work will be transformed completely.
IONChain is putting forward a very strong case to why it'll be at the forefront of these massive changes. By not only providing standardization of the data/code, which will help manufacturers immensely, but providing the security of that data is an advantage that literally no organisation can compete with. I could purchase an Amazon device that will make my life easier... but it will also send my location and the activity within my house out to Amazon every 3 seconds.
By choosing an IONChain enabled device instead, my device could talk to a huge range of other devices from a large number of manufacturers, but I can be sure that my data is safe, and it's not kept in any one place to be hacked thanks to the combination of the blockchain and the edge computing technology... and my device might be also earning me IONC if it can process the data transactions around it.
We could see a future we no longer need to work because our devices are generating an income for us. This means we could spend our time on more personal pursuits, growing food, looking after children, telling stories, etc.
Clearly there are billions of use cases for IONChain, from manufacturing to solar collection and distribution, but I'd like to offer a really fun use case for this writing contest.
Obstacle courses + IONChain
Obstacle courses are a huge industry in the world at the moment... millions of people across the world have competed in a Tough Mudder or Spartan Race, and/or have watched competitive obstacle course racing in any of the 22 Ninja Warrior variations around the world. These are the famous versions, each country and region has countless local competitions and races.
My idea would be to make each obstacle an IONChain datacenter, that collects and processes the IoT information on the competitor's wrist bands. Not only would this track exactly where a competitor was in a race, but data on successful completion and speed could all be available, not only to the athletes afterwards, but to viewers.
By placing cameras along the courses, this would allow family members, friends, and audience members to watch the progress of specific competitors, and vote for their favorite obstacles. As far as I know, this has never been done before.
Competitors could each IONC tokens as they progress through the course, and viewers could award IONC tokens to obstacles to particularly fun or challenging obstacles.
Most of this infrastructure is already in place... competitors already wear bands, and their time is already tracked... most competitions already stream races on social media and have lots of cameras... the innovation comes from outside viewers being able to watch the progress of the competitors they're interested in.
Viewers could award IONC to their friends as they complete the obstacles, or to random strangers who put on a good show. This could lead itself to competitors becoming professional obstacle course runners without relying on sponsorship or prize money.
Urban Scavenger Hunts
The same concept could also be applied to Urban Scavenger Hunts... which have become vastly more popular in the last few years as they combine fun runs (fitness) with problem solving and competitiveness.
Organisers place IONChain devices around an urban area, and competitors follow clues and run around trying to hit each point.
These types of fitness competitions are very popular as companies look for new and exciting ways to get people moving and to differentiate their competition from all the others. IONChain can provide that differentiation, with IONC being the main drawcard.
Benefits for IONChain
Understandably, this use case is a very small example of what IONChain is capable of... but the beauty of the idea comes from introducing IONC to the masses. Obstacle courses are very popular, and lots of companies put teams of their employees in to compete against other teams... This means everyone from CEOs to an entry level clerk's aunty watching from home gets exposure to IONC... will could lead to mass adoption.
