Until recently, when one of my best friends told me about Steemit I hadn’t had any idea what’s that. Now, a week later, I find myself writing a thankful note to Steemit community and investigating this wonderful place with even more enthusiasm!

Investigating, in this case, doesn’t only mean spending nights and days reading about stuff you’re interested in, but also learning some skills I think you need to practice lest you be discouraged, figuring out your journey through Steemit isn’t that easy as you imagined.

I would like to share with you what this little minnow learned swimming in an adventurous ocean called Steemit. Here is a list of some lessons that turned out to be useful for me as a beginner.

Engaging in the content you like

No matter if you create your own post or resteem and comment the others, I suggest you focus on the content you’re familiar with.

It can be useful for growing your audience to do some exchange Follow and Upvote with other users, but I would call “benefits” you get this way artificial. Try to connect with people that bring content you really like and get genuine likes in that way. Write about the themes that you’re interested in. Follow the others that bring such content.

Don’t force yourself to post

What’s the proper timing for posting? Should you post several times per day? Once a day? Or even rarely?

I think there is no correct answer to these questions that can be applicable to all users. As I know, there is some kind of penalization if you post frequently. Some says it’s the best to post 1-2 times per day. I support this advice, adding to it one note – don’t force yourself to post. Concentrate before creating anything, pick up the theme and try to be as more authentic as you can. Don’t plagiarize, i.e. copy and paste!

Use Steemit chat

Besides using useful tags in searching for the themes you like, I highly recommend you to use Steemit chat: https://steemit.chat/

Here are some helpful texts that explain and give a detail instructions for newbies how to connect with even more people in Steemit community:
