Quesillo Recipe

The quesillo is one of the most famous desserts in Venezuela. Many compare it with the international flan, but unlike this, which only uses the egg yolks, the quesillo requires the whole egg.

Its name is due to the small holes that form in its structure that resemble those of Swiss cheese.

Today we are going to prepare this delicacy, which is not only delicious and simple to cook, but it is also an important source of protein. Take note!

Ingredients :
5 fresh eggs

500 g of condensed milk

500 ml of whole milk

10 ml of rum

A spoonful of vanilla extract

For the candy:

1/4 L of water

5 tablespoons of sugar

Preparation :
We are going to prepare the caramel first and for this we put a saucepan on low heat, pour the water and add the sugar stirring and let it reduce until we have a golden caramel.

Do not neglect us because we do not want it to burn. As soon as you see that it takes that golden color, we remove it from the fire.

Still hot, we pour it in the molds of flan. We move it a little so that it also spreads on the sides of the mold and let it cool.

In a bowl, beat eggs, condensed milk and whole milk with an electric blender until a homogeneous mixture is formed. Try to do it for at least three minutes, beating steadily and then add the vanilla and rum. We mix everything well.

We pour our mixture into the mold or molds that we already had prepared with the candy.

We have three cooking options.

In a bain marie for an hour and a quarter in a bowl with water on the fire. If you prepare it in the pot, the container should have a lid, and the cooking time about 20-30 minutes.

To bain marie in the oven are about 30 minutes at 180 °.

To check if it is ready, we introduce a toothpick or small knife in our dessert and if it is clean, we already have it.

We turn off the oven, remove it and allow it to cool to room temperature.

Once cold, leave in the refrigerator at least about 4 hours.

We unmold carefully, with a quick turning movement so as not to spill the caramel.

We put our taste and we can enjoy a delicious dessert.
