What's Your Awkward Super-Power? (Hint: mine involves lots of !!!!)

I’ve come to the conclusion that most everyone is awkward in their own special ways. If only someone would’ve told me that when I was a kid!

Instead of hating myself for the ways I tend to be abnormal, like I did growing up, I try to embrace the ways I add my own bit of weird into the mix of interacting with others. Self-love, right?

Sometimes my colourful nature makes people uncomfortable, like the time I wore this hat downtown and 98% of people who met my eyes looked away and tried to pretend I didn’t exist, but some people smiled back. I wore the hat for those people.

If I had to pick one awkward super-power, I’d say I’m overly-enthusiastic. (Let’s call it a super-power, shall we? It makes me feel better.)

Those people who can play it cool and take everything in stride? Not me. I try, but if I’m excited about something, even something as simple as meeting a new person on Steemit, there are usually a lot of exclamation points involved.

In the past, I’ve tried to tone myself down and edit my actions to make others feel more comfortable (I still do this out of habit, sometimes), but I’ve come to the realization that I don’t want to suppress my enthusiasm. If I’m excited about the world, that means I’m enjoying life. If it also makes me an awkward person, oh well.

I have other awkward super-powers, some that I’m not quite as proud of. On the darker side of things, I have a tendency to open my mouth and say what I think with honesty (sometimes brutal honesty—I just open my mouth and the truth comes out).

My honesty sometimes gets me in trouble, but it’s who I am, so I embrace it. I don’t do well with fake niceness. Even though I might not always be tactful, I’m authentic, and crave others who are honest about who they are.

Self-acceptance is part of my yoga practice, or my practice of being human. It's not always easy, but definitely worthwhile.
