I lost $800 on Hashocean cloud mining. It was very unfortunate but a bit of a blessing

Not all that glitters is gold

About a month ago, i heard about a cloud mining site called Hashocean from a YouTube content creator(i don't want to mention a name here) that promised a lot of return on interest. I have always been the kind of person who takes risk like crazy.

When i saw this, plus more positive details on their website, i was thinking wow! i could do this and really earn, for life.

I'm only a student who works alongside to support myself but very interested in cryptocurrency with the hope of the possibility that one day i would be lucky enough to not necessarily be super rich but have just enough from crypto to be able to live very nicely. You know what i'm talking about. So being able to strike lucky would be very nice.

Having seen all the benefits, i decided to try it out with about $30. It worked. I was to receive about almost $1 a day for life which meant, i would get my return on investment in almost two months. I trusted them and withdrew money i had invested in LISK(which wasn't doing too well at that time)and gladly invested in Hashocean.

I was slightly, very slightly worried and had day dreams of being super rich for the rest of my life. I normally tell my friends what i do in my life but i decided to test this one out a bit before i tell anyone. That ended up being a very smart choice. I invested a total of about $500 by the next day. Didn't have anything left but hope of glory and riches everyday for the rest of my life. Investing $500 meant i was receiving about $10 every day for the rest of my life. It actually worked. They had an option where you could add your bitcoin address to be paid. I did, just to try it out and for 2 days straight i started receiving payments.

This is not my account but a picture of how their page for transactions looked like.

It was nice to receive those payments.

See i had known about genesis mining too, I'm slightly invested($40) there too, which as of today is legit so that validated my decision to tell hashocean to "Shut up and take my money" lol. More profit, why not? Well ...

I could have kept on receiving payments and gotten back about 20% of my money. 20% because if i left it on automatic withdrawals i would have received payments for 11 days or so. That was how long it took for them to run away with the money of me and over 700,000 other people worldwide, after i had invested.

You would think i did leave it on automatic payments. NO. They had on option called profit accumulation where instead of having your payments sent to you in your bitcoin address, you could reinvest it in hashocean and increase your daily payment amount.

Being that crazy, i did. Well ...

I had high hopes. Really. And i was that willing to go all in on this. My plan was to get it to 8000 kilos hashes which is equivalent to $40 everyday for the rest of my life. That would cost about $4000 to get. i was 30% there.

Receiving those payments would have been nice. So i kept on reinvesting money i could have had sent to my wallet.

Dooms Day

On June 26th, 2016, i came back from work in happy spirits about to buy more hash power...

I type hashocean.com and what i see is this ...

What a day that was. I smiled. To be honest with you, i knew this could happen. I just didn't think it would that fast especially after i had invested. Let me be honest, i was a bit sad, but i moved on instantly still hoping this was just a slight error and that it would come back. i checked online and found that people who invested were all complaining.

Their Facebook page was deleted, YouTube, Twitter everything was gone. Then i started completely losing hope still with a slight remnant of hope left for a miracle. They promised a 100% refund if you didn't like anything so my plan was to get out fast as soon as the site is fixed and demand a refund fasssst. But no, it didn't happen. I followed up on different websites hoping to find some info but they all didn't display anything positive. There were a lot of people disappointed also.

It just wasn't going to happen. Hashocean run away with millions of dollars from over 700,000 people including over $800 of mine. It's sad but fake websites kept on popping up that same day wanting to further scam more people. How wicked lol. Well i began to lose hope and accept defeat after hours and hours of checking to find out about what has happened. Everything i read wasn't good.

The merkle wrote this article the day of hashocean's disappearance that a new website has emerged looking just like hashocean. http://themerkle.com/biteminer-feels-like-a-revamped-hashocean/

That site is biteminer.com.

I ADVICE THAT ANYONE THINKING OF EVEN CHECKING OUT THIS WEBSITE SHOULD NOT. IF YOU'RE THERE ALREADY, ASK FOR A REFUND FAAAAAST.

I doubt you'll get it but still try. This site looked exactly like hashocean. As a matter of fact, it was hashocean with a new name. I guess hashocean 2.0 to go big on the scam this time around. Hmmm...

LESSONS LEARNED, ADVICE AND STILL BLESSED

I lost hope with an ache in my heart and a smile on my face lol and lessons learned. Even though taking risks could end up well for you, try your best not to do it often lol but if you do, know what you're getting into. Be very weary about sites like these. If you're not sure, don't. Hashocean failed me and has taught me a valuable lesson to be extra watchful of ponzi schemes, so they call it. Just be extra careful and know what you're getting into, what you're doing and what could end up going wrong. I've learnt to be very weary about sites like these.

It's all good because i planned to invest and additional $3000. I had every money coming in, lined up to be invested in hashocean. Only God knows how much i would have invested in Hashocean if it was still live and kicking. Because hashocean was no more, i ended up saving all the money. I used some of the money planned for hashocean, for investment in Steemit :D, and already I've gotten back 6 fold what i put in, (tears of joy) lol, which is multiple times more than what i lost on hashocean. I'm not saying that Steemit can't go wrong, they're waaaaaay more transparent with a masterpiece of a whitepaper and thus why I've decided to get on board the steem train. Hashocean didn't even have a legit Address.

To all those who lost money on Hashocean, I'm truly sorry. I know exactly what you're going through. I'm very sure others lost waaaaaay more than me and i can't imagine the pain you're going through. I'm deeply sorry. Put on a straight face, get your head up, don't lose hope in crypto, start over again, YES YOU CAN! and be the STRONG MAN/WOMAN you've always been. Steemit is yet another invention in crypto so join hands and let's make it the greatest community ever. Keep striving on in life. Let's all forget about the past and continue being a part of this new community and crypto as a whole.

If this serves as a steer in the right direction to someone confused or about to signup for one of these schemes, i would be very grateful. Love you all and thank you for reading. Stay super strong! :)

Please note: The images that were about me are mine. The cartoon and hashocean logos are from google images.

People! Do not invest to the cloud mining NEWER! PLEASE!

I completely agree @domino. Thank you very much :)

It's NOT cloud mining! He had never been mining at all.
Ponzi - that's what it's called. Do not mining! It is important.

I think so too @coar that they probably never even had a mining rig and were just paying early people who signed up with money from people who signed up recently. I think it's a ponzi too but the fact that they were claiming they had data centers and all, gives a bad rep to cloud mining although i understand it's possible there are a very few if not only one(genesis mining) legit one "so far". But even with genesis mining, i'm very cautious about it.

owner of hashocean - awesome moron!
despite the fact that I was in profit!

lol. Well if you were in profit, then you're very lucky to get your return on interest. For me, i was one of those unlucky ones who got in late to the party and it didn't last me that long for them to run away with my money and others as well. I'm glad you didn't lose that much @coar, if that was the case :). That really great for you :)

I do not like such services. They initially focused on the large number of people to lose their money. Anyone who creates them - must be neutered.

The reason why these services are many - it is difficult to get Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency. If all people had a lot of money so they can afford to buy a nice house, a car. A lot of tasty food. And generally buy what they want, they would not have climbed in such shit services.

That's very true. These services are a risky.

Sorry bro, it happend to me also, lost something like $500 in that and cloudmine, all the mine in the cloud one day or another they gona fly away with our money, same with doble up pages and that kind of ponzi.
But one thing I learn from all this is that u cant be more than 20-30 days in the same site, take what u win and go to other page. It work and its working.
I have my referrals mail list and advise them to move with me to this site and then this other place and so on..
I care, as I would like someone to take care my money if I give it to invest, if they win I win, it's that simple.
Good luck in your next move.

Do you call a Ponzi - mining and even the cloud? It is not right.

When you do not know what to invest and how it works - then you start to lose. And then when the service is closed.

No coar, i believe it's possible there are good mining rigs out there. Cloud mining for the mass, i'm not too sure about. The only one that's legit "so far" is genesis mining and even with that, i'd be cautious about. I'm just not too confident in them.

Sorry too @sebhaj and thank you. It was very unfortunate you lost too. I'm thinking also about the people who invested even more than me. This hashocean thing hurt a lot of people and felt really bad for myself and others as well. Sorry again @sebhaj. Nonetheless , we move on. Thank you, use the lessons learned to "better yourself". I'll do the same too. Let's stay strong and keep our head up. Good luck too and good positive attitude :)
