Hello World (greetings from an excited newcomer)

I'd like to say hello to this brave new world that is the Steemit community and to introduce myself. I'm a Portuguese guy who has recently become more aware of the ever growing emergence of blockchain applications. The idea of decentralizing social structures in such a transparent yet privacy friendly way is very appealing to my taste. I do not know if this is going to flourish or decay in the long run, but I'm pretty sure I'd like to have a part in this very promising movement. Hence, Steemit!

I'm still struggling to fully apprehend all the details of the mechanisms on which Steemit operates, but I'll get there sooner or later. In the meantime, I just hope to interact with some interesting people with whom I can share ideas and experiences. 

I have a very wide range of interests, which include (but are not limited to) science, philosophy, music, literature, politics, economics, mathematics, digital media, and history. I'm currently working on a PhD in Particle Physics, so physics and mathematics topics and discussions might often get my attention. As for music and literature, I consider them my two personal creative expression forms. I have a blog where I publish (not as often as I would like) some writings of my own (in Portuguese): The Mindstream of Inevitable Thoughts. I also have uploaded some musical compositions of mine to Soundcloud.

I'm very curious to see where the Steemit community (and the blockchain technology in general) is going. My only hope is that we can collectively move this thing forward to everyone's benefit. See you around!!
