Introduction: My First Day Here But I Still Made The News - Hi Whales

in #introduceyourself7 years ago

I guess they call it being "flagged into oblivion"

thooms.jpg

Surprisingly it was not @smooth and @abit who did it. They were nice to the newcomer, though I was flagging all the big fish who supported them as feelings got hurt all over the place. I got really upset to see really nice posts being slammed, going from $15-20 down to $2 in the last day or so.

I came in all guns a blazing to try and undo the wrong being done. The UX Results are listed below one after another, I pasted them to a text file, prepping to write this post. I popped a few more bitcoins into my account after one "wealthy investor" said I should just be content to stay little and don't complain.

No

Not my style. I didn't plan on investing this much money on little Steemit, but if one guy wants to whip out his little willy and show people how big it is, I can counter. Nowhere near all in, I will try to keep people from resorting to ...

"... and suddenly pineapples." (take a look at @bkkshadow 's feed now - hilarious if it weren't so sad)

The plan is to use my Steem Power to upvote people who were downvoted, then flagging anyone associated with the power play. Smooth and abit are nice about it - they feel they were just running an experiment. Abit even told me I would need more SP and suggested I power up another account - hehe.

My point would be, if the whales are voting and ruining the experiment, then downvote the whales that are misbehaving. I guess I was the only one who sees it like that and has the guts to flag them, with a fresh account of course, some get flustered and fight back. The people below don't have the means to do that though.

Here is my first day in a nutshell - my comments contained this. . .

You should downvote the whales who are messing up your experiment! Instead you crush people who are TASTING a little success....

Downvoting a post will result in a reduction of the post's reward, that is paid out in Steem Power too. So, basically, by downvoting a post, you are simply creating a bigger inequality in Steem Power distributions.
It's like stealing from poor and honest people, acting like a reverse Robin Hood.
So, why should original content creator spend time and efforts to create original content just to get a downvote everytime someone gives them an upvote?
Congratulations, guys, you are destroying this platform!
Let's use the Flag function to flag copyright infringement and inappropriate content, come on!

Lots of minnows being targeted by this. I think you are doing much more harm than good here, with your power. The market is going to remember. @berniesanders has come to his senses. I hope you will, too. This has been about as "scientific" as trying to fix a leaky faucet with a hammer.

I wrote a community encouragement post today, got 5 or more flags, killed the rep and payout, and I had a lot of time and thought into it but who cares, about encouraging content right that is then worth $1?
It was a failed experiment and these flags, with no start or end date, or announcement, are driving good people off here daily.

Because of my limitations, the work that takes a few hours to me takes me a whole day, the work I went up today titled Organic Food (the Corn) took me three days to do it, I had a low valuation of u $ S 3 dollars and for the negative votes I am $ u 1.00 s.
I live from what genre on the page, at this rate going well could get to collect a lot of wind in favor 30 dollars, who could live with 30 dollars.
Please do not misunderstand is not a complaint, nor am I blaming anyone, I have worked all my life in multinational companies I know how they think, when something you do not like you have to go.
I resigned to Disco Ahold International Holdings with 18 years of antiquity because I did not like the policitas that they had adopted against our same company, the result is of public knowledge to this group of Argentina it acquired the group Cencosud.
I want to say that I love this platform, I dedicate more than 14 hours a day working with all my mistakes, successes and mistakes, I am interacting 14 hours with a lot of people who want good for the platform, do not let this that was Working fine do not do it.
If I am or I am not for steemit it is the same, but the people who are in my situation who work to make money at some point will not interest you, I really do not know what might happen, but I would not want this to come down.
I repeat again is not a complaint, it is only a reflection from my humble situation and position.

That's very interesting... However, I don't agree with down voting for the sake of experiment at another users expense. Down votes should be reserved for poor content! I rarely have much to say about the drama around here. It's just not worth it. But this has been the single most asinine and destructive thing I've seen on the Steem blockchain. Payouts being knocked down from over $30 to less than $5. Some are getting whacked into noseeum status.
The stench of these cronies playing with other people in this so-called experiment reeks of totalitarian despotism. Has a group ever gotten together and asked, "How can we destroy Steem and most effectively crush the morale of as many people as possible?" If they did, this was the answer.
As I mentioned to @steemitqa, it's akin to serving tables and every patron, plus your coworkers, having the ability to negate your tips. I've rarely seen something so vile that wasn't at the hands of the state, a corrupt corporation or a narcissistic sociopath (been ripped off by all of the above at one time or another).

@smooth @abit @neoxian

This is sick shit you guys are doing to MY community on Steemit. I will blow twenty grand on flags before I let you run more experiments like this (without consequences)

Signed,
@thooms

The worst consequence the crushing of content. Me downvoting a few whales will make them think about what they are doing. *You really should have adjusted the code, then explain "It's only temporary" to the whales... Not the above mentioned.

Silenced and censored by @neoxian - the above content is still flagged "Low Ratings" by one guy. Now he writes kill pieces on me but never showed my motivation which is to help those mentioned in this post. I am the topic of his last two posts.

  • No I am not going to split the Steemit blockchain! (delusional)

If you have a moment, you could vote to make my comments visible.

I was actually thanking people with steem for flagging the whales when I couldn't - takes guts to downvote someone with 2.5mm. Thanks guys! I will compensate anyone who helps the effort to make Steemit a better place.

I get nothing, nor ask for anything on my account. I am here to try to fix the frustration expressed by the listed profiles above. What I read was heartbreaking so I moved thousands into SP, sorry for the market spike, and I will be upvoting people who have their modest earnings zapped by @smooth and @abit - but I don't want to ruin the positive impact that the experiment is having on rewards. No 100% votes which would trigger another flag.

Please guys!

  • Automated voting is cold.
  • Automated flagging is theft!

I understand the reasoning behind what @smooth and @abit are doing. Good results so far!

  • I get the numbers and how it would make the platform render more than just $0.00 for many hours then a whale vote for the lucky.
  • That is, if we don't lose 20% of the the great content creators we had - now some have changed to pineapples - latte art - or just left temporarily.
  • Give this post a ^ to keep it from turning invisible - I don't get anything from it. Thanks for reading.

I can't say I am the opposite of @smooth though I did oppose his methods, @htooms

Long time 🐟 turned 🐋 to have a voice.

Sort:

I see you downvoted me, so you must have read what I wrote (unless you are running a bot). How about an actual response, you know, with words? If this is how you operate, you are not going to do very well here, even with your massive sp.

I just replied on some other post ....better to join dash slack chat.
I didn't even get an automatic notice but a nice flag. Oh well!
Edited : I am not angry at anybody! Little boys can play it out alone but don't forget there are people out there who feel hurt because they do not understand what is going on.

Several issues i have with the "experiment".

  1. No communication to those who were classified as "whales" that such an operation was going into play. Well, other than after it was initiated.

  2. Flagging our end users is something I would never agree to. Nothing positive could come from this. It leaves our users confused and upset. And is a terrible way to treat members of our community.

I would hope that in the future, a disclosure of a such would be provided to those involved so that all concerns can be addressed. This is what a community should always do...communicate.

If whale.wallet(balance) >= 500000 Then
decrease (slider.value / 100)
apply.vote(slider.value)
End If

(not real code but the real one would be that simple - insert - done)

Thanks!

I won the whale vote contest - watch out! Good things coming!

I won the whale vote contest - watch out! Good things coming!

Thanks for what you are doing. I am a small fish but have been downvoting these "flag whales" since they started this stunt. I will upvote your posts.

Are they flagging you back? I mean, you are not posting, but are they flagging your comments? I am low on voting power right now but I will be looking at who IS flagging and reward people for it.

No, they are not flagging my comments as far as I can tell.

@smooth and @abit have managed to piss off at least 99% of the people here, and they are actually taking advantage of this experiment of theirs, they actually have bots and pals who are upvoting their downvotes, great huh? But I think downvoting whales is actually stupid, what do you gain by downvoting whales? They probably give a shit, thay have bots that upvote them so you probably can't hurt them.
Stop this downvoting bullshit, it's only hurting the people who really write great articles and are trying to make some money here.
If you are going to make your power count do it by actually reading the articles and vote with 100% power for those who you think deserve it.
I think that would help Steemit, seeing real authors getting real good rewards for good work.

I just gave you 100% - there are comments that deserve it too! Totally agree - Thanks.

Flagging is a necessary evil as they say. I had never thrown a flag at anyone, through last year or this one, until yesterday. I will never downvote anyone who is not a whale or doing damage to this platform.

How does that work if @smooth has a bot that is upvoting his downvotes? I have stopped countering him - you have got me thinking.

You could at least have the guts to use your main account.

No, the bots upvote the comment where he says he downvoted.

Ah. I was downvoting those comments. I am not sure if it's worth going up against them. Check my following list smooth has litterally A to Z and then some. Smooth-a to Smooth-z hehe.

Yes, I did check that out yesterday that's why I don't think downvoting a whale makes sense, well I hope you do good and most of all I hope Steem gets out of this quagmire it is in (hope I used that word right, I'm not that great in english).

I've seen that, yes. $0.05 on the automated comment giving the reason for downvoting. I flagged a few of those because of "disagreement on rewards", but I only managed to knock off $0.01. Whatever you think of the experiment, it is ridiculous to get any rewards on these bot messages, however small the rewards may be.

I don't believe this is your first day but welcome all the same! 😜

I just leave a quote from one of my posts.
If a Flagging Button war starts, that could make steemit look like a cemetery full of Tombs in cyberspace forever on the blockchain (perpetuity and ubiquity).

If a Mute button war arises, every "ignore" is a brick in the wall of a Tower we are building around us and can make steemit became a big field of High Towers with people closed inside them and shouting to be heard.

If Bots or votes without reading or curating keep on growing, Steemit will become a ghost town, with some ghosts(bots) still living in it.

Steemit can be a model of the future in the blockchain for a more just society because for me the real meaning of Justice is Equality and not the point of view of the Power as it is today.

Excellent post. Very relative. You're followed.

First, till now your flagging seems to work as counterpower, but I'm not a tech to see the implications in the all system. If non-whales users don't complain of ethical problems I'm not against it.
What do you think if steemit could have only the vote button?
If you don't vote means it's not voted?
Should Flags go out too?
Because for me lots of problems would be solved on Steemit if the witnesses voting was based on "one Steemian= one vote" instead of the vests power of the vote?
And I think that witnesses that show work for the community should be voted, or like I did in my case I unvote the witnesses that were "experimenting with me".
Sometimes I think most of Steemians don't realize that they can have more power by understanding that they can get united and change the configuration of witnesses on Steemit.
Sorry for so many questions. :)

If I have available votes, I vote for the things I am in agreement with.
If I don't vote, that could be considered my way of "down voting" a person's content.

One member - one vote would be like a chat room with no limits or mods. Like a game that doesn't let anyone advance or level up. There has to be a way of advancing here.

There are actually two. There is the "SP for Hard Work" and the "SP for Bitcoin" ways of gaining more stake. If I were to invest 51% in Microsoft then I could force my will on the developers to open source it and make the OS virus proof. Otherwise I can write an email complaining that my system is vulnerable - or just go somewhere else.

You exercised your power over the witnesses by removing your support from them. That is our system.

My personal opinion is limiting voting power on posts based on high quantity SP holders. That's what I believe so I will likely do that with my account. A 5% vote for the blogs I like which will still give each one between 0.20 to 0.60 and someone with only 10,000SP would be able to give 0.20 to a blogger by using a 100% vote.

The whale can get 40 (votes) X 20 (5% votes) which gives him 800 votes per day.
The non-whale would get 40 votes with the same impact as the above.

Tks for your explanation, I just saw now that you are repairing the damages made by "the experiment" on Steemit and reduce collateral damages. Keep on. Good job. :)
I never look at numbers on the wallet but now I saw by chance what you are doing.
That's work for the community, good witness to vote if you are aiming for it:).
This is a comment I made about the experiment.
If the "experiment" had the right intentions now, the "experimenter(s)" should give back to the people what was taken from their produced value (steem), but nobody can replace the damage made in Human feelings and esteem of innocent bystanders.
Me, and many common content producers on Steemit, surely are not going to forget that they were the guinea pigs for and experiment of the wars of the fight for Power using aleatory targets of any bystander.

The sad part is that this kind of thing happens once every few months. It's not always mass flagging, but it is always a mess. They have not learned that small adjustments should be made often rather than huge changes that void every "Steemit Beginners Guide" out there ever couple of months. Thanks for taking the time to socialize - that is the part I like the best about Steemit.

Why do you call yourself htooms?

I was downvoting this guy named smooth - so I chose an opposite name. You know him, I saw you voting on him yesterday and still now.

Why do you flag him 100% and then undo the vote? Just curious?

steemdb (1).jpg

Too expirement.
Where do you find these "statistics" I was wondering all the time if someone could see your this.
I'm mostly totaly unaware of what is what, Yesterday was the first time (I believe) I tried flagging, I still don't know the difference between a flag and a downvote and how you downvote, or maybe it's the same thing. You tell me.

They are the same thing. Look a the difference between these links.

  • Since steemit is a blockchain, you can see everything everyone does openly.
The first is where we are now - steemit.
The other two are just a few of the many tools for "looking at the blockchain"
You can enter the user name of your choice right on the link and see what that person is doing.

There are also a lot of menu selections once you arrive at either sight.

Thanks for the clear explanation
O.k. I have to "study" this.
But since you seem to know all these things.
I would like to ask a quick question. ( if you have the time)
I've looked at all three, what I noticed is that by steemdb (number three) you can scroll to the end of the page but there it seems to stop. Is there a way to go further back?(like in one and two.)

Man....(or woman) you can see a long list of me upvoting and downvoting lol.

When I started posting I did a lot of editing that is why my first blogpost ( the song) appeared in light grey letter in the feed (I believe it's called)
I even posted it twice because I didn't know if it showed up the first time. I could not add a photo (now I can) pfff I have a lot to learn.

ps I noticed just jet in my comments, that you downvoted my comment on permaculture to kafkaanarchy84, may I ask why. I don't see anything wrong with it. (edit 3 day's ago)

Edit; this comment has been moved.

(put it here cause of six post down)Thanks for the answer.

I only have one request left. Could you maybe answer the question I asked earlier on why you flagged/downvoted my comment on permaculture to kafkaanarchy84. I would really love to know.

link; https://steemit.com/steemit/@kafkanarchy84/ramble-in-anarchy-500-followers-on-steem-permaculture-farming-bitcoin-and-the-downfalls-of-internet-ancap-ing-or-fuck-it-let-s

I paid each person 1 Steem in thanks for each downvote on X whale.

I saw you had downvoted him like 41 times (if memory serves).
When I saw that you had undone your flags on him, I could not take back the Steem so I flagged one post (again if memory serves).

I am a very generous but fair person. I hope we are friends for a long time so that you find out that I am telling it to you straight.

(Disclaimer; I posted this reply under my own reply, now I place it under your reply so that you'll notice it. I will "delete/edit" the original)
Ok I tell you why I flagged unflagged etc. With the risk of you being smooth him or herself ;)

I noticed that if I flagged-unflagged-flagged and unflagged again
That with the last unflag the 0.05 rewards he had,( because of his upvoting with smooth-e), disapeared.
Really strange. It only worked with the 0.05 rewards. not with the higher or lower rewards.
I noticed it by accident. I don't even know if is an error or if it's normal.
And maybe it was not even my flag/unflag thing, but it worked aproximately 6 times, I quess.

All the downvoting stuff really gets me down. I really enjoyed reading a lot of stuff and commenting, upvoting and having discussions and so on. But now all the downvoting is occupying my mind. I never down voted anyone, even with smooth I always ended with undoing the flag/downvote. Ok I took $0.30 or so with the flag/unflag thing.

So now you know.

What happened was...
You flagged/downvoted him and his reputation went down from 68 to 67.9
He saw that and used his @smooth-e account to upvote himself - 67.9 to 68

He has infinite resources and can re-upvote himself to mitigate damage from little guys. I watched his reputation live as I downvoted him. He would likely be in trouble if 20 larger whales ganged up against him.

Use the tools - that's what they are there for. Great job learning all this tech stuff - it's your money - your Steem!

"Automated flagging is theft!"
It all comes from the same reward pool so automated voting is theft as well

Makes sense. Mine are all me and my mouse 🔎

whoa how do you use an animal to choose what posts to upvote

Again, you threw the first flag. But let me guess, when you flag me, I'm supposed to just sit and take it. If you wanted your voice to be heard, maybe you shouldn't have started by flagging random people.

Who are you again? You claim this is your community, but you are brand new. You must be someone's alt. Why not just use your main account?

Also, I had nothing to do with the experiment.

Obviously you are welcome to power up as much as you like. Boosting the price of Steem certainly helps me out, so please power up more, really.

If you are a whale you should be a bigger person. What are you like, "stalker dude?"

I'm not a whale. Never claimed to be. It's clear I'm never going to have a rational discussion with you, so I won't bother. You are not responding to any points I make, plus you put words in my mouth. Anyway, I'll leave you alone now. Happy steeming.

thanks for the mention and I have resteemed this post. Keep up the good fight!
