Greetings! Just landed on STEEMit. Who should I follow (and why)? Please tell me.
Why am I here?...
To participate in a blockchain economy (no illusions about riches). I'm fascinated by the theory and technology. Hopefully I can learn a few things and contribute along the way.
Some quickfire thoughts and questions...
- Social media is being demonized as a principal threat to society. How does adding a merkle tree to the equation change the balance?
- Those growing up in a Netflix-only house will have allergic reactions to advertising. Can STEEM provide a model for media consumption without advertising and survive?
- There are a lot of scammy blockchain-related speculators out there giving good things a bad name. How can an ecosystem preserve & promote nobility?
- Blockchain technology promises the 'end of lies', everything is traceable. How can bots/fakenews be held at bay?
- The base appeal and true power of crypto currencies is with the separation of money and state. How can that be protected and leveraged 20 years from now?
...and on and on. Just started browsing here today and seeing the intersection of media and blockchain is FASCINATING.
Please let me know the leading voices to follow (and WHY).
On my side, I'm going to try and write about blockchainy things to answer questions I have. Looking forward to being a part of this.

Who are all those people and what are they doing?

The Netflix-only thing... many households now take this route and cultivate a no-screen practice. Recent study shows that children in such homes are exposed to -230 hours of advertising a year compared to others. Now consider that the alternative is a constant subjugation to advertising is the equivalent of Chinese water torture... you don't even realize what's happening to your brain... to the point when watch 'normal' television a WTF/turn-it-off recation results.
Take a three week no-screen vacation and gauge your reaction upon return.
I'll weigh in a bit from my perspective in just that I enjoy the people here much more than the other socials I've been involved in, and the fact there is some crypto reimbursement for my effort is just a bonus. I believe in creating content here because I love it first and foremost, but more importantly, the communities that develop here and support one another are down right astonishing. Just a bunch of great people I think. I'm drawn primarly to Dtube and became a part of the Dtubedaily community, jumped into their Discord and haven't looked back. For me, it is all the attributes I remember about some MMO games, with a crypto compensation that rewards some time and effort. To me, its the best of everything. Hope you enjoy it here!
