Who would place their router in a closet?

I am currently in a country where the tradition is to place the router in a closet just next to the entrance door. So, I understand that it is practical to have the router close to the door, making the installation work easier as they bring the Internet connection (fiber) to the house, but when you later put the router into the closet and say hasta-la-vista and goodbye, and tell the people to enjoy the Internet connection, that is when I am a bit amazed. It is just incredible how placing a router inside a closed closet will slow down the Internet connection, and when it is surrounded by water pipes, electrical devices, that interference slows everything down even more and makes the signal really set out to danger of trouble...

So yeah, if you have a slow Internet connection that is supposed to be fast, take a look at the location of the router, as that might actually be a big part of the problem.
