Black Beetle or Lawn Beetle are major pest to #steem , that is correct. (stems)
They can cause severe damage to roots of a wide variety of plants. Their favourite plant for the Black Beetle is grass.
So if you found too many of these in your lawn, you will know why your lawn not growing so well. Time to pesticide the lawn.

Hopefully there is a more natural defense against these?
Birds , they will start eating the larvaes before they turn into adult Beetles and continues the cycle again.
