Inktober Day 2 - Tranquil

Christmas Card Doodling

I'm happy to have completed the second day of the Inktober challenge.

I was hoping to do day 3 today as well but that isn't going to happen now. But never mind . . .

The second prompt - tranquil - got me to thinking about what I could do to produce a tranquil state within myself right now and I came up with listening to some chilled music and doing a bit of doodling.

So I put on Spotify and got out my pens.

I didn't want to work on another art journal page or piece of paper that I would eventually throw away so I decided to make a Christmas Card.

And here is the result.

I'm pretty happy with it and I thoroughly enjoyed making it. 😁

I think it's fairly self explanatory as to how I created it.

I used a blank card and doodled the Christmas tree.

I printed the words on the front page of an old book, inked the edges and stuck them on.

I prefer to do this rather than print straight onto the card in case I make a mistake.

It was just as well I did as I left the "t" out of Christmas the first time around. 😱

The ornament, at the top of the tree is a piece I sliced from a polymer clay cane I made and now I'm thinking I'd like to get out my clay again. It's been years since I've used it.

I hope you're all having as much fun as I am with the challenge. 😁

Very nice Christmas card design @gillianpearce. Well done!

Thank you @lightningjohn. Glad you approve! 😂

Gillian this is so cute!

Thank you @sjarvie5. Glad you liked it. It was nice to make something that will be useful.😁

You know what I'm going to say:

It's not even Halloween and now here you are putting out Christmas stuff!

Actually, that's not how I feel about it one bit. I'd rather skip Halloween all together and head straight to Thanksgiving (here), then Christmas. Alas, methinks I am alone.

Again.

It's okay. I'm used to it.

You are not alone. 🙂 🎄 💖

That's good to know, @jacey.boldart. :)

There's probably some of us out there. Somewhere.

I know what you mean @glenalbrethsen. I was horrified to see Christmas Decorations in the garden centre two weeks ago! 😱

You are not alone. I would happily skip Halloween and ban all Christmas products from appearing in the shops before December.

I just wanted to do something that was useful rather than having another piece of art just hanging around.

Try to focus on the craftmanship rather than the subject matter. 😂

It's okay. I will find myself humming Christmas songs or hymns in July, so no big deal there. It was just the first thing that came to mind when I saw the Christmas card. :)

I think you did a really good job on it. I'd probably burn through some paper before I ended up with a tree I liked. And I thought the use of the other materials was a great idea. Now, the question is, will this end up in someone else's home, or does it go up on a mantel every year from now on?

It will definitely be in someone else's home @glenalbrethsen. That was the point . . . make something I can get rid of. 😂

I'm planning on making some with postage stamps too but I'm not sure if that will fit in with the inktober themes.

Maybe I should resurrect my website and start selling my art again. Then I wouldn't feel held back from creating by not wanting to end up with loads of paintings lying around.

I'm not likely too though since all my professionally taken photographs were lost when my computer was wiped. 😢

Lovely. The way you drew the Tree it kinda looks like it is made of Candy though...lok

Must be the stripes and the red and white @empress-eremmy. 😂

Love your doodle tree Christmas card. It makes me want to start now and make homemade Christmas cards to send to my family this year. Hmmmm I think that would be a good idea.

I'm hoping I can use more of the Inktober prompts on cards @jacey.boldart. That would be a great way to produce more useful stuff.

I'm sure your family would love your cards. 😁

My mind is flying over all sorts of ideas, like including bits of real tinsel/garland. I keep the cards my family and friends send me and in the end they will mean nothing to anyone but me, but it crossed my mind to cut something from the front of a card that they have given me in the past and incorporate that in the front design, even if it is just a small bit. So MANY possibilities !

My mind is flying over all sorts of ideas

Yep. That's the challenge of being creative. That and being unable to make you ideas look on paper like they do in your head. 😂

That's why most of the time I just wing it and see what comes out.

I rarely have a vision of an end product when I start to create something, so that is the norm for me. Just gather things in, sit down and start and see what comes out.

Sounds like we have a very similar process then jacey.boldart. 😁

Have a lovely evening!

I like how you did the doodling inside each section, @gillianpearce... and it's good to find a 'function' for your work too (win win) ... I hadn't thought about it making something out of it 😁

Thank you @cryptocariad. I have so many pieces of art lying around it puts me off making more.

If I can make something I can use out of it that suits me better. 😁

That seems like such a fun challenge! I am glad to see your doodle projects , clever woman!

Ha, ha, ha. Thank you @melinda010100.

It is indeed fun, but it's taking rather a lot of time. I need to learn some more about Steem Monsters before the games begin. 😁

I think I just need to sell my cards! Should I do that before the games begin or after?

Hmmm. I'm not sure let me ask someone in the know and get back to you. 😊

How many do you have approximately?

I'll go look after I am done fixing lunch and get back to you.

This was the response I got . . .

"right now we are in a lull... if it were me I'd wait til the games start and people get excited to get bigger"

So hold on a bit by the sound of it. 😁
