When your leg is sprained, there are several first aid steps you can take, from compressing it with ice, wrapping it with a bandage, to taking medication to relieve pain. Treatment for this injury must be carried out immediately within the first 72 hours after the sprain. Mild and moderate ankle sprains can heal on their own. To speed up the healing of sprains, there are several things you can do, namely:
  1. Rest the ankle joint
  2. Wrap sprained ankle
  3. Compress the sprained leg with ice water
  4. Lift your ankles higher than your chest while lying down
  5. Avoid things that can exacerbate swelling

Ice packs and cold therapy are more appropriate for helping heal sprained ankles or other foot injuries. How it works, by reducing blood flow. Thus, there is also a reduction in inflammation and painful nerve activity.
