Bernie's Fandom Menace

Star Wars fans have been insulted and harassed by the mainstream entertainment media for not being politically correct enough in their critiques on the Disney Star Wars films, Particularly on The Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker. When fans called Rey, the new protagonist, a Mary Sue who didn't earn her status as Luke Skywalker's replacement, they were branded misogynist.

When they said that Rose Tico was a weak and superfluous character they were called racists. This shows us two things: 1) how deeply society is infected by identity politics and 2) that this political agenda is popularized by corporate America, Disney being the case in point. It's all part of the "Third Way" rebranding of leftist politics, away from economical and class related issues toward pandering social identities; some right wing nut-jobs still think this is "cultural Marxism," a shady conspiracy lead by Marxist college professors who are supposedly the front-line in the war for "white genocide," which is another ludicrous right wing conspiracy theory. Anyhow, the more notorious critics of the Disney Star Wars films and their followers have become known as "The Fandom Menace," which is a play on the title of Star Wars Episode I: "The Phantom Menace."

It's one thing for the mainstream media to criticize other professional reviewers for their assessment of the films, it's a whole other thing to attack regular fans of the 40 year old franchise, especially when you call them racist and bigoted in the process. YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, the internet in short, has changed the landscape of public discourse; no longer are opinions manufactured from high above in isolated ivory towers, now that everyone can express their opinion on every subject imaginable. And this hurts. When you're accustomed to setting the direction and margins of the public debate, when you're in a position to first hype up someone or something through extensive media coverage, and then turn around and say "see, we predicted this would happen" or "see, we predicted that person would win the election," when in fact you yourself created the circumstances for that to happen, it must hurt to lose all that power. The Fandom Menace has won; "Solo: A Star Wars Story" and "Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker" both under-performed at the box-office after the huge Fandom Menace online backlash following "Star Wars: The Last Jedi."

The same happened in 2016 with Trump, and it still continues today; center left corporate woke sellouts still insinuate that Trump voters are all white male supremacists. Yes, they exist of course, but most Trump voters were just fed up with politics as usual, a lot of them disappointed Obama and Clinton voters. And now it's happening with Bernie Sanders' supporters too: a slew of articles are coming out blaming Bernie for the behavior of his followers and supporters. Case in point: Joe Rogan's semi endorsement of Sanders from a few days ago. After the Sanders campaign used Rogan's nice words about Bernie in a promotion video, the center left woke outrage machine immediately cried foul and demanded that Bernie apologized and rejected the semi-endorsement, because Joe Rogan said some problematic things about race, gender and trans-issues. Think about this for a moment and you'll see how insulting this is toward Rogan's audience of many millions; he has one of the largest podcasts in the world, if not the largest. It's not Rogan, but Rogan's audience who Bernie's campaign is aiming for with the promotion video, and you simply can't paint them all racists and trans-phobic, just like you can't do that with Trump voters or Star Wars fans...
