Kerala is rising from the ashes

As of now, almost all people have been rescued. Many people lost lives but thousands have been rescued.

Now what?

Hundreds of people have lost their houses too. Where will they relocate after the relief camps have been dissolved?

What about their livelihood and how will they earn money now that even land has been destroyed due to landslips? It is frightening to even think about it.

Crops

So many farmers have lost their crops after it got submerged in the waters. The loss is too much. Our own rubber trees are bleeding and I am too scared to think of the loss but mine is nothing compared to those who lost all.

I had written a post seeking help thinking that some whales might tend to help but those who helped were themselves not in a great position to do so but yet they helped and I once again thank @tygertyger for having helped in this crucial time.

I request all to support her by voting her posts.

Funds?

I noticed that many people are asking and collecting funds in the name of Kerala. Please do check for yourself before donating. If you are unsure, please contact @indiaunited and verify the credentials and then donate to steemit members.

As for donating to the funds by officials, please do not send funds as of now. After reading a whatsapp msg and goaded by me, my husband approached a village officer who asked him why he bothered to come at all. Later on, the minister declared on TV news that no funds will be allocated to people until they asses the damage which is not anytime soon.

How will you tell that to a person who has lost every possession he had. It is totally heartbreaking to see people sobbing and saying that they don't even have the will to live after having lost all.

Haters

Social media is now a means of spreading hate as well. We Keralites never knew people hated us so much. I read several messages on facebook and whatsapp asking people not to give funds to the people of kerala who don't need any help and all. It is totally ridiculous.

Rich or poor, the people now need hot food, a bed to sleep and a shelter. It was shocking to read that a group of girls staying in a hostel were more afraid of their neighbours than the flood. I hope and pray that the government takes steps to provide shelter to the homeless and also a means to live for those who lost all. It is not a joke at all.

Thieves

I remember the night we left for staying at another house. The water was rising rapidly and we do not have the second floor; only a loft where usually there are some rats too. It was unimaginable to lift my mother in law and take her there in case the water rose. So, we left but my husband kept coming back to check on the house. The boys of the neighbourhood were also keeping vigil. We came back after 36 hours. The night we came back, we saw a torchlight at around 12.30 in the night. it was about twenty feet away from us and in the water. I was scared that it might have been something terrible but my husband and son swore that the torchlight moved and in return they flashed their torches and kept talking. Our power had not been restored and it was pitch dark.

The next morning, I saw a sight and it looked as if a person was in a sitting position, near our bananas. I called my family and my husband went over to check. He came and reported that it was a broken banana leaf which looked like a man who was crouching. He also said that the torchlight, seen the previous night had been that of thieves who had come to steal. They did not come to our house because we were present but instead they stole a square tank of our lease farmers which costs around 4k.

There have been many cases of theft reported throughout the state. I am glad we were not attacked by thieves.

Many people from all over the world are sending food and other supplies but the customs are not letting it through unless a heavy duty is paid. What a situation. I hope that they allow the goods to reach the relief camps.
