5 Must Watch Documentary Films On The Indian Air Force—Part One

in #india5 years ago (edited)

Indian Air Force (IAF) is also known as the 'Guardians Of The Skies' and are amongst the top air force in the world and these documentaries i'm listing today will show you what makes them one of the best.

These machines are nothing without the human element and our pilots are highly trained and sharp as they come. Some of these documentaries are a bit lengthy but worth your time.

While I'm not a fan of war but I am a huge fan of fighter aircrafts and equipments. However, these videos go well beyond the machinery and into the depth of what it takes to become an officer of the Indian Air Force.

I’ve decided to split this post up into two parts as I’m in the process of finishing the documentaries for the 2nd half of this post. But, it will be worth the wait.

Extreme Flight: The Indian Air Force

The first video is brilliantly shot and in HD quality explores the unique operations conducted by the Indian Air Force in the Himalayas, an extreme and hostile environment on Earth. It takes a peek into the daily challenges and sacrifices made by the soldiers of the Air Force. You can watch the trailer below while the full length is available for a free viewing at here.

Indian Air Force Academy

This documentary is packed with a lot of emotions and patriotism as it captures the life of 4 cadets at the IAF Academy. Mudit Tewari, Priya Sharma, Amogh Bhandralia and Kartik Thakur are at the various stages at the academy and it shows the rigours of life when you are trying to become one of the finest officers of the IAF.

Line of Duty IAF Sukhoi

A slightly older documentary and the quality is decent but the content is pretty good as it deals with one of my favourite fight aircrafts-Sukhoi Su-30MKI. There is plenty of footage of the aircraft and it's capabilities in this documentary and totally worth a watch.

The second part of the post is here

The LINE OF DUTY one was probably the best.

There are a couple of other, not so much of a documentary but still pretty good, episodes by NDTV Good Times' Rocky and Mayur. One features MiG-21bis and the other the Su-30MKIs. The latter also features Wing Commander Abhinandan. :)

Btw, it's sad that we'll never get to see a decent documentary on IAF's favourite and its most battle-proven fighter, the Mirage 2000, simply because it's a platform for the air leg of our nuclear triad and therefore the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) won't allow filming anymore. There's only one short documentary ever of it, by DD lol, and that too from the early 90s when the aircraft wasn't a nuclear weapons delivery platform.

yes I've seen that episode as well. But it wasn't relevant to the post and hence didn't share it.

It would've been nice to have a new IAF documentary with the latest Sukhois, Rafales and LCA in all their glory. That would be epic for the times we're in. Extreme flight had good visuals. Did you see that?

Yes I saw it. :)

Indeed, it would be really nice to have a new documentary especially with Tejas and Rafale in it. Hopefully we'll get one in a couple of years when sufficient Tejas are inducted into service and the Rafales also arrive.

Btw, have you watched the Indian Submariners show by Discovery? It's absolutely awesome! One of the best in-sights into our silent service.

Indian Submariners

Have watched the first one, The Extreme Flight and IAF Academy. Now going to watch IAF Sukhoi.

Really very much proud of Indian Air Force and the way they took revenge of Pulwama Terrorist Attack. Indian Army has always been very much brave and powerful even before Independence. It helped Britain in World Wars and returned triumphantly. Actually Indian Army was the main reason for the Independence of India (first the INA and then the Navy Mutiny).

India is going to be superpower in near future and Army will be the World's most powerful Army powered with latest technology.

Thanks so much @firepower for sharing these documentaries.

Waiting for remaining two, maybe you'll share in the next part. :D

I'm glad you liked it. I've shared the 2nd part today. :)

Jai Hind ki Sena .
I love it
