On 21 May, 2018, two student's bodies carried out a protest rally but permission was denied by the administration.
One Internet commenter, Badal Chumui, reacted:
The Administrators themselves are illegal Immigrants then how will they permit for the rally.
The right to protest has come to an end for the indigenous of India's Tripura State. Their own state capital is no longer theirs. The illegal immigrants have won and the indigenous has been thoroughly outnumbered conclusively. Now, the administration is manned by the illegal immigrants. And the administration has recently denied permission to the natives from holding public rally in Agartala, their state capital.
The fence-jumpers will now decide what's right and what's wrong; they will decide what's democracy and what's not.
In all of India, this is one place where the indigenous has been decimated like nowhere else in the country. People from other states cited the case of Tripura when it comes to conversations about illegal immigrants. In short, their status in their own homeland has now become a cautionary tale for outside observers.
The illegal immigrants have concluded that the natives will not be allowed to protest against the controversial, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, in the Tripura's state capital Agartala. This is tragic.
