Idiocracy: Are we there yet?

in #idiocracy6 years ago

A few days ago, the movie Idiocracy was on television.

For those who have never heard of it, it is a comedy film released in the year 2006 and it has the following premise:

While couples with an average high intelligence have fewer children (1 or none) due to various reasons (career, time, lower sexual desire), couples with low intellectual level usually have a very large number of children.

Thus, due to natural selection, genes related to higher intelligence begin to be passed on to the next generation at a much lower frequency than the genes of people with lower intelligence, and over several generations, people of medium or higher intelligence are extinguished, leaving only the idiots on the face of the earth.

An guy with average intelligence is frozen and wakes up in the future, where he ends up being considered the smartest person on earth.

In recent days I have felt like the protagonist of this film, and I think that I slept at some point in my life and I woke up in a world where a great mental retardation occurred in all the people of the planet.

Overkill? Maybe not. Some facts:

  • In Brazil, in the polls of presidential elections, two candidates stand out: on one side, a former president convicted in two instances for corruption, and currently being tried in the 3rd instance. On the other, an ex-military man who has already made several racist, homophobic, misogynist statements, and flirts with the possibility of creating a new military regime government. Yes, a new dictatorship.

  • In the United States, we have a businessman who has become President but does not seem to have a very high intellectual level, especially in what refers to international relations and the world economy.

  • People claim that the earth is flat, completely ignoring thousands of years of scientific development, and want to convince other people that gravity is a lie, that the Earth's disk is wrapped in an ice barrier, and that everything is just a conspiracy of government and NASA (and now also of Elon Musk) to convince people that the earth is round. Although no one knows what is the purpose of this conspiracy.

  • Also at the level of conspiracy theory is absurd the number of parents who are not vaccinating their children, because according to some of them, it is all a plot to reduce the world population. More people who ignore thousands of years of scientific advancement, but in this case with far more serious consequences for the health of children and even entire populations.

  • Back to Trump, we have his little friend in North Korea who looks like two children arguing in the courtyard of choice who has the biggest dick, but with the small difference is that these dicks are nuclear atomic devices that can destroy the entire world population.

  • Meanwhile, in everyday life, ordinary people have seen celebrities on the internet talking about ... what they ate for breakfast. Or doing something disgusting and even dangerous, such as eating detergent, or pouring concrete on your own head.

And many, many other attitudes we see every day being done by ordinary people or celebrities.

My question is: Was the world already retarded like this before the age of the Internet, and the only difference is that the Web enables us to have access to these stupid people? Or the average intelligence of the world is in decline?

Please help me with this existential crisis ...

You're totally correct, I've been saying the same thing for years.

Humans (in developed countries at least) have outgamed natural selection, so there's no selective pressure for intelligence. As you said, lower IQ people have way more children than average or high IQ, so we're seeing a period of population replacement, like an invasive species.

Forget the right wing hype about ethnic minorities diluting the population, the population is already being diluted from within, by retards.

Just watch TV for 5 minutes and you can see the dumbing down process... I ask people to name 5 famous singers, answers no problem. Name 5 famous sports stars, no problem. 5 famous movie stars ? easy. Name 5 famous scientists ? um, nope, not a clue.

p.s sounds like a good film, I must go look that one up ! :-)

Watch the film... Even though it's not the most fun comedy around, but it's pretty fun.

I don't know were we are heading on the future if we stay on this path...

I think we should revoke the universal right to breed, the planet is already overpopulated and outstripping resources.

People should be means tested and required to get a license before being allowed to have children. If you've never worked in your life or paid taxes and can't bring up a child without the government paying for it then you shouldn't be allowed.

It could almost be classed as an act of domestic terrorism, willfully making something that will have a negative net benefit to the economy in which you live...

Harsh I know, and a little apocalyptic, but in a couple generations time we'll have a population of jobless simpletons relying on a tiny minority of people clever enough to still have a job lol :-)

I'm with you on almost all of this, though I would note that there is plenty of evidence that certain vaccines are harmful. If science were still science, that's one thing.. but it long ago ceased to be that. With the revolving door between regulatory and corporations, there is all the incentive and opportuniy in the world to let big pharma (Science) get away with all sorts of nasty things.

Why are corporations immune from lawsuits stemming from vaccine reactions? Where is the radically increasing autism coming from? Fluoride is another example.. it is now classified as a neurotoxin, and yet it is STILL being put into the water. I think there are plenty of examples of both Government and Big Pharma (scientists) implementing things that are BAD for people. I don't trust them at all.

Real science .. sure, absolutely. But modern science is not real science .. at least, not by the time it makes it to the average pleeb.

I agree there is some space for discussions about vaccines, and even for improvement of them. But claiming that there is a conspiracy behind the scenes it's a big stretch. And vaccines have a long history of saving lives around the world, inocullating populations against a lot of diseases.

People not taking these vaccines are allowing long dead diseases to reappear. And who suffer the most are those that don't have a say yet if they want to take their vaccines yet (the children).

We indeed have some problem with science too (dumb down effect also?), and besides the corporation interests there is also the problem with scientific institutions as well like univesities, where a scientist (i have some scientists friends that talk about this all the time) is more valued if he produce more scientific papers, no matter the quality of the research. That leads to a lot of useless researches being done around the world only for the sake of publishing more studies.

About bad science, it can easily be proved wrong with good science. The big problem is where the research money is going.

Check out the origins of allopathic medicine. The root of western medicine itself is a conspiracy.
