Huawei, Sailfish OS could be the alternative of Android and the proprietary OS
Huawei has been working for some moment on a proprietary mobile OS, but at the same moment is considering all of Android's alternative alternatives. Aurora OS, a Russian Sailfish OS fork (the OS generated by Jolla), is one of these. Russia and Huawei have reinforced their cooperation contracts following the American government's ban, and it appears that Huawei CEO Guo Ping has discussed the option of using Aurora OS with Digital Development Minister Konstantin Noskov, Communications and Russian Media.
It seems that Huawei is already testing equipment with pre-installed Aurora OS and the firm is also moving on the option of relocating its terminals and processors manufacturing in Russia. A small reminder: Sailfish OS is a Linux-based operating system created by some of the former Finnish engineers and staff of Nokia, the same ones that created MeeGo OS. The operating system is currently pre-installed on four systems, but it can also be installed on Sony Xperia X, XA2, XA2 Plus and XA2 Ultra.
Sailfish OS's peculiar feature is its open-source nature: anyone can recover the source code and modify parts of the operating system as opposed to the Android model, which, while partly open-source, is actually owned by Google and can not be regulated by the society. We also have compatibility with Android apps, a gesture-only navigation system, shortcuts to show only some aspects of the graphical interface, and a proven multitasking system among the interesting characteristics of the Russian operating system.
Sailfish OS also focuses on privacy. Jolla gathers only the information strictly needed to conduct its services and does not sell to third-party businesses the data gathered. In addition, all information is only and exclusively collected following the permission of the user. Therefore, Sailfish OS would not be an alternative for Huawei to be discarded, and in reality it seems the giant is seriously thinking about it. The business would not have to invest in project development and promotion, and a proprietary shop intended for the new operating system could be developed for Android apps.
