New Weekly Format

With most Cryptos being on rollercoaster rides lately, the opportunity to make money with them (all of them, not just Steem) has been a little rough. I find myself in the same situation as many others, in that the chance of earning a living from Steemit, seems a long way off for those of us that are not in the mainstream categories. I am not giving up on Steemit, but I have no choice but to put more of my efforts into earning from other sources.

Starting today, things will be done a little differently.

  1. This newsletter will be weekly instead of trying to work a daily format most of the time.
  2. The newsletter will no longer contain all the links added to Sotall.org. I will highlight some of the best and occasionally will run themed editions. I will still be adding new posts to Sotall.org whenever I have time. I will still resteem and upvote posts as they are added, but not all will be highlighted in the newsletter.
  3. Raffles will remain unchanged. (Raffle #1 is over the ½ way complete mark!)

@liquidtravel shows you some things every home needs in case of a gird down situation

10 Items To Include In Your Self-Sufficiency Plan: Power Grid Failure

@liquidtravel has done a GREAT job at giving you a guide to what every person should have on hand for a power grid down emergency. They show you step by step ways to prepare to survive the first 2 weeks without power. (Part of Puerto Rico is still without power almost 7 months after the hurricane)

Many people in Florida were without power almost a month. As these storms increase in damage we can depend less and less on government help to get life back to normal. Being prepared to take care of yourself for a while can make a major difference and @liquidtravel reminds you of many of the little things you may have missed.

@jackdub teaches about his backpack solar panels in language even I was able to understand.

Off-Grid: Backpack Solar Panel - Portable 2.4 amp USB Charging

For many years now, I have wanted the ability to use solar power to keep a tablet charged so I can put information on flash drives in PDF format, so I would have access to all the knowledge my head alone can’t hold. But I could not get enough info that made sense to me to decide which charger I needed.

I have read hundreds of ads and look at pages worth of Goggle results, but it just didn’t make sense until I read this post by @jackdub. He breaks it down for those of us who have no knowledge of watts, amps and such.

I already had a few battery packs but as of yesterday, I now have a 24 watt foldable charger (RavPower 24W Solar Charger) and everything I need to put my storage plan in action except an OTG capable tablet and everything will be in place!

@hansjurgen gives you some advice on how to keep young chicks warm and healthy when you are off grid. You never know when this skill might be needed so it’s well worth reading!

Brooding Chicks Off-Grid

Many people who live in cities don’t think about obtaining the knowledge of how to raise animals because they don’t have land to raise them on. But in any type of societal collapse, having that knowledge can make a big difference in how well you survive the aftermath.

@jackdub shows you how to use cargo straps to solve a problem

Useful Knots and Tow Strapping Brush with a Double Half-Hitch Slip Knot

I’ve come to think of @jackdub as a person knows how to think outside the box. Almost every week he comes up with a way to use a common item in uncommon ways to solve a problem. In this post @jackdub shows you how he used common cargo straps to help clear downed tree limbs and offers some other uses you might not have thought of.
He’s also a master of knots and teaches you how to make several, then ends things up with links to videos he has made showing his work in action.

The Homesteaders Handbook: a 9 part series on raising chickens

@walkerland has created a great handbook on raising chickens. They go into great details with plenty on instructions and images to help you understand everything you need to know and do both before and after deciding to raise chickens. They have been nice enough to include the entire handbook on Steemit!

Part 1 -Things To Know Before You Start Raising Chickens
Part 2 - Breeds, hybrid vs heritage and more
Part 3 -Coops, mobile chicken tractors, bedding, chicken tunnels
Part 4 -shelters: covering things like coop cleanliness, human health, free ranging
Part 5 – Baby Chicks
Part 6 - Hens
Part 7 - Broody hens, hatching chicks naturally & using an incubator
Part 8 - Roosters
Part 9 – Everything Else
