Feeling Defeated... But I Met My First Steemian, and That is Exciting!!!
I am feeling defeated but at least I met my first Steemian out here in the physical world. I would like to meet other steemian close to where we live, so if you find yourself in the Hudson Valley region of New York State, come say hello 😀...
We had invited a couple of awesome homesteaders (who recently started a new freeing adventure On The Road!!!) to come relax on our property: I'm sure a lot of you have heard of them, but if you haven't take a moment, off of this post and go check them out, they are @freedompoint and @freedomtowrite.
(For their awesome adventure, also check out their blog specifically about that: @crookedroadhome)
These guys have a vision to bring together all the Homesteaders on steemit, and do their part in the adoption of the platform by new comers.
You can find the group they started, Global Homestead Collective on Steemit @ghscollective.
And on Discord:
We met in the parking lot of a nearby shopping center... unfortunately, we couldn't spend a bunch of time together because our hill was too steep and slippery for their RV. I felt so bummed out that we couldn't provide The Yeti (@freedompoint) and Stacy-D (@freedomtowrite) an easy, relaxing few days or even weeks!
I was really looking forward to getting to know you guys. But as you say, The Yeti, no regrets... only looking ahead. If it happened that way, it must have been meant to be. See you next time, I'm sure we'll cross paths again @crookedroadhome!!!!
The reason I feel defeated is because we have given up on our Homestead for this winter. Okay so we started building, from the ground up, a homestead almost 5 months ago. We live on top of
a hill with quite a steep driveway and we've been in a fifth wheel trailer. This thing is huge, it's big enough for our small family of 3 but it is tough with all the rain that we have been getting. Leaks and all that start to find their way in very imconvenient places!
When I say that we're giving up, I mean we chose a wiser path for this winter. We wanted to build a high tunnel over our trailer to keep warm, dig a well and have a solar power house. Our little soon to be year old son and my wife were going to do their thing here on the Homestead while I went to work all week in the big city (only coming home on the weekends).
Bad plan!
With some predictions of a wet and cold winter, we got woken up to a reality that perhaps staying up on this hill without running water, and no proper electricity system in place wasn't a great idea. I will be more than two hours away and if there's a problem, I would be too far to help!!
That's why I feel defeated, and this was decided right before @crookedroadhome came to hang out!!!!
Aaaah, so many disappointments!!!
I have to remember my own quote: In the end, everything always works out.
That reminds me, check out this contest going on for SBI shares: Give Me Your Best Quote!
When someone believes in you, you're far more likely to rise up the best version of you that you can be.
Hope you have a good place to winter ;) You moving back in the spring? Even if you don't you have the adventures of this summer. You are correct everything always works out. My family has had a crazy year but we are all better for it individually and as a family. Hang in there! #DreamsComeTrue
Thank you, we're hanging in there for sure! Off cpurse we're going back in the spring... I forgot to mention that we're not givinging up entirely!!! This is just for this first winter 😁.
I'm happy your familly is all better... thanks for remembering #dreamscometrue. They sure do!
I upvoted your post.
Best regards,

@senorcoconut don't feel defeated. It takes a heck of a lot of courage to make difficult decisions. I think that your choices reflect your love and care for your family. Yes it's heart wrenching when things dont go to plan but maybe they have. Come next spring you will be able to restart your homestead build. In the meantime enjoy your adventure. ❤
So sweet, thank you so much, and yes perhaps this was part of the plan!!! I am feeling better about this decision already, so many people from this steemit community have given me well hearted advice.
Thank you 😁
Hey! It was wonderful to meet you. You have an amazing homestead, and it was great to share it with you...even if it is only for a minute.
Don't feel discouraged. Life is amazing. It is one decision after another, and the feeling of good or bad are subjective! Be well.
Ah subjective... hmmm. Yeah I guess it's really is. You've helped me male me feel less discouraged about change through your travel stories!
Thanks @freedompoint
Even if it didn't go as planned, I'm still so happy we were able to meet you and your family! Not to mention the opportunity to spend time in the woods by a river.
Sometimes the best decisions can be the hardest. But you didn't give up your homestead, it's still there and you'll be free to go as much as you want throughout the winter! You'll just know that there is a warm place to be when you need it.
Toujours de l'avant! Je vous remercie pour vos aimables paroles. Jusqu'à ce que nous nous revoyions!
(Thanks google translate! Haha)

Thanks @freedomtowrite! You and your family are so good at staying positive it's kind og contagious and I love it. You right we didn't give up the homestead, it's just a little break.... plus we can have beautiful winter games on it in the snow!
You're welcome and thank you for your kind words 😊
It takes such patience, we've been there! It felt like we were talking about, working towards and planning our own homestead journey for such a long time before we finally realized the dream.
You have the land, and a plan in progress so even though you are roosting elsewhere for the winter you've got a good head start for spring.
We always seem to live on a hill - the upside is no flooding!! :)
Thank you so much fpr those comforting words @walkerland. You're absolutely right, we have a head start!
We are way too far from the 100 year flood plain that's for sure... thpugh our hill has been getting muddy from so much rain this year! But you're right, no floods!
