HARVESTING TOPSOIL - PUTTING EVERYTHING TO USE
Good soil can be hard to come by in the Ozarks.
A lot of the "soil" is just rock and clay, which is not the best for planting your garden in. As we transition from the existing woods into a garden, suppressing the wild growth is key.
As we work our way across the old forest floor, we scrape the surface and gather the leafs, stick, weeds, and topsoil. We then sift it and will be adding the topsoil to our raised beds and the rest of the organic material to the inside of the hugel mounds we build.

Thanks!
Nice!
Thank you
Topsoil is key and the most important part of any garden. Far too many neglect the soil and refuse to build it up, instead preferring chemical applications. I go to great lengths to build my soil.

Top soil! That brown/black gold! An ongoing treasure when you have soil like that. I've featured this post in the Homesteading - Living Naturally, newsletter.
