HATCHED OUT A FEW MORE!

I would like to introduce to you the newest members on HOP Farms Homestead. These are Blue Andalusian chicks. They lay white eggs.

Below I will show you when it's time to take them out of the incubator and there living arrangements for the next week or so.

image
You know it is time to take them out of the incubator when the chicks have beome dry and fluffy. They come out of the hatching process wet and messy so if you take them out of the incubator too early they could get to cold and die. But don't leave the in to long after they hatch either. If the chicks began to pant and don't stop go ahead and get them out.

image
Right after your chicks hatch go ahead and get there house set up with food, water, heat lamp and wood shavings. Turn the heat lamp on to get the area warm for them. Ideal temperature is 95 degrees for the first week. Drop the temperature, by moving the heat lamp, about 5 degrees each week.

image
After the chicks are fluffed out, there living arrangements are set up and warm the first thing we do is show them there water. With your thumb on the back of there head gently push there beak in the water.

image
Do the same process with the food right after the water. We like to put a paper towel under the food and water. It helps keep wood shavings out of the water. You can also raise the food and water up to help keep the shavings out.

We will keep them in the contaner inside for about a week maybe two. There next step is the brooder boxes down stairs in the well room where they can start to get use to the out doors.

THANK YOU FOR POPPING BY!!

Wow..welcome to he new members😎😎

My congrats! They are cute and you made a perfect conditions for them. But why only 2? I suppose it just the beginning and you will have more of them to breed because if they both turn out to be roosters... it will be hard

Well it's kind of a sad answer on why there's only two. I had some raccoons come in and wipe out my Andalusian flock. These are the last eggs I got from them

Yes, sad story. Good luck to your survivors, and let's hope for better

I never thought about the paper towel under food and water. I have seen cardboard used but never have enough of that.

It's not a perfect fix but it works pretty well
