A Cider press from scrap wood - Part 2

in #homesteading7 years ago

Well folks, I finally made enough progress to show off the cider press build once again.

All of the wood used was taken out of the dumpsters in a new development. So very little cost is involved.

This has been a bit of a slow process with my job getting in the way of my projects (that always happens). Anyway here's the original post for those that are interested.

Here is a couple of pictures from pintrest for the idea

So I built the base with 2x6's

Added some uprights to fit tightly in those slots for takedown and storage

As this thing is going to use a bottle jack as the press, I figured it should be strong. I added 2 2x10's for the base to support the tray and barrel. And added a 2x4 onto the tray so it can be taken on and off.

Looks good👍
I decided that it looked kinda plain, so I made some handles from a willow branch from a tree in the back yard, and some little pieces of a curtain rod.

I then added a top to support the hydraulic jack, and added some more lumber for support to the uprights.

Almost done. I need to mount the jack and build the plunger to press inside the barrel, then seal up the tray with some epoxy, and add a drain pipe for the juice to run out.

Thanks for reading, I'll post the finished product later.
