We Saved A Feral Honey Bee Swarm From A Pool Pump House!

Hey everyone, what an amazing night this was again. Sunday night we went out to rescue bees from a Crypt believe that or not check out that post here https://steemit.com/nationalgeographic/@craigcryptoking/we-rescued-bees-from-a-crypt

On this Monday night we had to remove bees from a pool pump house situated right next to their swimming pool which naturally was a massive problem for them.

These folks called me a month back. I delayed this rescue mission as bees that have just swarmed and moved into their new homes do not move very well at all. My plan was let them establish themselves first and then once they had a few combs, larvae and eggs to do the rescue. This plan panned out perfectly!

They were under the lid. I was not expecting such a big swarm based on the fact they are a split swarm (recently moved) and not established. How wrong was I. This was a very nice surprise as the swarm was large and looked nicely established in such a short time, making my life and theirs much easier.

I got to work, pulled out the old faithful super bee sucker and sucked the bees off the combs. As usual they landed safely in the collection box.

I carefully removed each comb after sucking the bees off and re-installed them into their frames in their new hives.

The combs left on the top of the lid. This left behind is basically just nectar and a little honey which other bees in the area will be very grateful for!

Taking the combs off the glass fibre lid is tricky as you do not want any of that in the honey. It is always a good idea leaving a little behind so that other feral swarms can come around and clean up which generally they do!

As soon as I have removed the combs from the hive I gently placed them into a plastic container to be installed into their new hive in an hour or two. Just look at all the glorious brood. The darker brown combs are capped brood combs containing baby worker bees! The light combs are a sign of very new combs and the darker are generally older and full of larvae!

Once done the pump house is generally clean of combs and bees, what is left other feral swarms will forage and nature will do what it does, clean up perfectly!

Another day, another bee swarm saved, another win for bees and nature!

Be sure to stay tuned for more of my epic bee-keeping adventures!

Have a super Wednesday.

That is awesome thanks a mil!

It’s crazy how many bees you are rescuing! Great job!

Ye we trying bruv we now have 26 hives .. Pretty impressive considering 2 months back had just 3. Its a tough job but someones gotta do it ;)

wow! What a mission! Those natural combs are so beautiful! How do you attach them in their new home?

Great question there bruv explained here https://steemit.com/nationalgeographic/@craigcryptoking/safe-re-installation-of-honey-bee-combs basically fasten to hive Brood frames with rubber bands, once the bees have re-attached them they chew off the rubber bands and expel them from the hives, incredible right? Cheer$;)
