Calf Day Saga

in #homesteading6 years ago (edited)

This poem was written based on a true story.
It happens to be the funniest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.
I hope I was able to do it justice.

Calf Day Saga

Cartoon boy.png

There once was a young boy
His age, he was seven
He had a new calf and thought
He was in heaven

He patted and he brushed it
Till it started to shine
His sister was jealous saying
"I wish it was mine"

‘Twas orange and white
With a cute purple halter
A bit of a clash
But his love did not falter

Now, the calf it was special
It was bought for pets day
He had to prepare it
So that it wouldn’t stray

Lead rope training
That was next on the list
It was naughty and stuborn
But he had to insist

Once out of the shed
It smelt the clean fresh air
It kicked up it heels
With such grace and such flair

/Cow running.png

It started to trot
With the driveway in mind
With Mathew in tow
Now being dragged close behind

The calf gathered speed
Sensing freedom was near
But he wouldn’t let go
No way, nope, no fear!

Down the gravel drive
The calf it did race
Seven year old legs
Couldn’t keep up the pace

The speed was amazing
His strides elongated
“let go of the rope
Your knees will be grated”
grazed knee (2).jpg

Legs circling round
Like running in slow motion
Calf at full pelt
Causing quite the commotion

Bent over double
With hysterical laughter
Parents, unable to breathe
Or prevent a disaster

Right round the corner
and then out of sight
Like Mary Poppins
On her first flight

It was a happy ending
As no one was hurt
But poor Mathew walked back
All covered in dirt

I’ve often told the story
And given so much pleasure
The memories he gave us
Were something to treasure

The End

That was a wonderful poem. I really enjoyed reading it and to know it was true made it that much better! I could really picture it happening as I read it and I'm sure that was a sight to see. A few months ago my neice was in a talent show at a local 4h fair. I was picturing that happen at the 4h because the kids are around seven and they walk their cows and pigs around so they can be in contest Lol. Very well written. I gave you a shout out today on my post [here](Hey! Checkout blog post on eSteem! esteem://funny/@magicalmoonlight/do-you-got-jokes-1c3bf374bfc8e). All of the Dolphin School is doing so great and I've met some wonderful new friends so it's just another way for me to pay it forward to you guys.

Aww thank you - I'm so pleased that people are enjoying reading them - yes kids and animals are the very best subjects. Thanks for the upvote - most appreciated

Haha that was awesome! Reminds me of the things I did when I was young lol. I had a goat once and took it to a yard sale. It started eating the clothes and I got yelled at by my mom heh.

Hey did you see the payout I got on the post where I said I almost drowned? I was blown away by it!

Lol goats are the worst for getting in trouble! No I haven't had time to look around today yet but I shall check it out now - You'll be my new whale friend in no time - I will expect upvotes from you :P

Ooo yeah. I just upvoted this poem! :D I won't be a whale. That would be nice, but I'm not whale material.... or am I? ;) You could be too!

You may be - let's give it awhile lol - I may be a minnow forever :D

@andysantics48, One of the most difficult sequence for poets in poetry is writng constructive poems in a story form. Yours been non-fiction made it all the more endearing. It could be edited though and the humor was so obvious, I smiled after reaching a point where the parents were laughing. Keep at it, I see a rising poet. You might want to read these poets, Kei Miller and Mona Arshi. They inspire me alot.
I guess I will write a poem soon and dedicate it to you for inspiring me!
Thank you @andysantics48, it means alot that you use your words to the good of humanity.

You could read my day 4 assignment here too.

Haha the parent was me and I was literally crying with laughter - I will forever have the vision in my mind of my retreating sons form as it was dragged, full pelt, down the driveway. His legs looked like a cartoon character in slow motion.... I'm an awful parent :D

This was so awesome. I love how you spaced it, the pictures you added were terrific, and the story was fun. I grew up in rural Oregon in the midst of a bunch of cattle ranchers, so I’ve definitely had my share of funny things happen with cows. This made me giggle. :) See you back at #bootcamp.

Thank you so much - Glad I could make you giggle :)

I can see you having a collection of family/farm/animal related poems. I did have a copy of the Great Turkey Hunt, and have emailed it to you.

Oh great thank you - I thought I'd saved it but I can't find it - Do you think I should post it on here?

Definitely. I posted this after Dad passed https://steemit.com/life/@kiwideb/rest-in-peace-dad-and-some-music-to-remember-you-by so you could link back to that as some background, if you only want to write a little more about Dad yourself.

Nice poem reminds me of a similar one my mum wrote about my brother and I dropping a full bottle of milk after milking the cow lol.

I want to call mum and find it now lol, nostalgic

lol Good one! Reminds me of my Grandma. She used to make her own Christmas cards and birthday cards and write personalized poems in each one. She signed them on the back with a little doodle of her and my Grandpa and "Gran's Greetings" lol Thanks for a chuckle and some good memories too!

Aww thats so cute - now...... if only I could draw

It is interesting.. It took my whole intention till the end.. Good work

Thank you :) How are you feeling?

Still on bed.. Dry cough with low fever.. Weekness to.. Thanx for care.. God bless you

I can only wish I was that funny

This is truly beautiful!!

Thank you very much :)
