Planted potatoes in the house : Garden update 30 April 2018
I planted 8 buckets of potatoes. I have them sitting in front of my shoe bench and shoe tub.
So first I had the potatoes. I chose these ones months ago for their size and because they are organic.
Plus they are cheaper in a 3 pound bag verses the seed potatoes they sell in the garden center area of the stores.
I planted them in my water jug planters I re-purposed. I have had them set up for about a month, waiting for the weather to turn. But no such luck, so I will start them indoors.
Next I brought in my buckets and made a mess. They where heavy from rain water too. So I put my construction grade garbage bags on the bottom of them.
I had a lot of seed potatoes, and I have never tried two seeds in one bucket. So I was all, why not!
Then I lugged in about 100+ pounds of soggy soil. I had to make four trips for soil, I couldn’t do it all in one trip. I know for sure each trip was heavier them a 50 pound bag of feed.
It was interesting trying to get the soil into the house, I had to tip toe across the duck/goose play pen.
I filled the buckets to the top, until I had about an inch left. That way water doesn’t over flow.
Check out my gardeners manicure, LOL
So my biggest problem/fear is my cats being cat, and them playing in the buckets. So my solution was unfolding the big black construction bags and tucking them around the buckets.
So that’s was all done last night like I said I would.
Now it’s just a waiting game.
Waiting for the weather to turn, it has rained for 5 days. You can not go out without water boots. We have deep massive puddles and mud in places he haven’t had mud before.
