Homes On The Road #7 - David, Ramona, Ida and Irma
Welcome to the 7th edition of my series #homesontheroad about people living in freedom in mobile homes!
Today we meet
David, Ramona, Ida and Irma
in Portugal
David and Ramona are both from the same little Village in Austria. They have known each other since they were children and been a couple for 15 years - exactly half of their lifetime!
In 2014 they welcomed to the world their first daughter Ida, in 2015 they got married and in 2016 they got blessed with their second daughter Irma.
They have a house in Austria where they lived until last Autumn. They then decided to rent out the house to some friends and take year off from everything, to move into their mobile Home and travel Europe.
The reason was mostly to connect as a family. David had worked a lot, so he and the whole family wished to spend all the time possible together. And traveling is really a great way of doing just that!
Their home is an old Hymer Camper from the late 80's. They have kept most of the original interior, but changed a bit to make a second big bed "downstairs" from the alcove one (which folds up as a table and benches in the day), so the whole family has plenty of comfy sleeping space in the night!

They have had really good experience and enjoy living in their small mobile home. Less space is less work and less attachment! And now they don't really imagine that they will move back into their big house again!
The only thing they miss at the moment is their garden and a stable space to do some cleansing cures. So the dream now is to set up a yurt in the garden of their old house and let the friends who live their now stay, but have access to water and bathroom in the house, which also allows for a more communal life living with friends.
They would then love to also buy a piece of land in Portugal and live freely in between the two, half on the road, living and experiencing and half settled, emerged in the land and nature, to nurture, both the garden and the health of mind and body!
Ramona also has dreams of creating a free learning environment for children of all ages. She was a social worker before, but she would love to work more with children and is very interested in more free ways of learning and other alternatives to the conventional ways of education.
She is very concerned for the well being and healthy upbringing of children, which you can also feel in Ida and Irma, of course with the help of David too :)
It has been very nice to get to know this family and I consider them a part of our own travel-family!
We met them first time on the coast of Andalusia in Southern Spain and have since met them 3 other places along the road, all by accident and traveled a bit together in Portugal. It has always been a pleasure to be around them and and the children and we hope and plan to meet them again along the road or when they plan to settle for a while in the Summer in Austria!
