The First Wrist-Spinning Off-Spinner

in Cric-World 🏏4 years ago

Hello friends,

I'm Sandupi from Sri Lanka... I'm glad about this Contest. I was a big fan of Cricket when I was schooling. In those days, I collected so many pictures of cricketers, articles of cricketers and also watched cricket matches too much with my elder brother. I'm a little away from cricket now. But I also have a favourite cricket player like others.

He is.....

My favourite cricket player is Muttiah Muralitharan. His nickname is "Murali" and also I love to call him Murali. I know everyone loves to call him as Murali. Hundred percent sure, You will no doubt remember Murali's doosra bowling , as soon as you hear his name. Murali is the first wrist-spinning off-spinner in the history of the cricket. That is his symbol. That is the mark he left on the game of cricket.

About him.....

Murali is a former cricketer in Sri Lankan Cricket Team. And now he shares his knowledge with the current players as a coach. He made his debut text match against to the Australia on 28 August 1992 and his last test match was against to the India on 7 July 2010. He made his debut ODI match against to the India 12 August 1993 and his last ODI match was against to the India on 2 April 2011.

The beginning of his cricket journey was not a happy one. Murali's bowling action was a controversial bowling action among the batsmen.

To the naked eye, Muralitharan appeared not to bowl the ball but rather to flick it with a bent arm and flexible wrist. According to the rules of cricket, if his arm was bent and then straightened at the point of delivery, the ball would be deemed a throw (hence illegal), but Muralitharan’s arm remained bent throughout the action. Exhaustive studies by the International Cricket Council (ICC) of both his action and the physiology of his right arm showed that the bend was a natural deformity and therefore not illegal.
In 1995 Muralitharan was called for “chucking” (illegal delivery) seven times in one day by an Australian umpire and again in a one-day international match by two other Australian umpires. But it was not until four years later, once more in Australia, that he was again charged with throwing. Muralitharan’s development of a new type of delivery, nicknamed the “doosra,” in which the ball turns away from a right-handed batsman, prompted still further allegations of throwing in 2004; however, in early 2005 the ICC modified the rules to allow Muralitharan’s unusual arm movement.

But finally he was eventually acquitted of all charges. By the time he retired from cricket, he had set so many world records in cricket. He got the biggest win he could get as a bowler. Murali is the most wicket taker in both test and ODI matches ever. Murali has taken 800 test wickets in and 534 ODI wickets and also no one has broken those records yet.

Murali was a brilliant star in Sri Lankan cricket team..

Why Murali was my favourite cricketer?

This is the important part of my post. Contest is "tell us about your favourite cricket player"... I already told about my favourite cricket player... But if this post does not mention why he is my favourite player, it is a big shortcoming...

owner of the innocent smile

It has two main reasons... In Murali's cricket journey, he has faced to so many problems... But he faced to them without fear... If he ran away from problems, we could have lost The First Wrist-Spinning Off-Spinner. It has been nine years since he retired.. But he still owns most of the records he holds.. And also the other thing is his face is always full of smile... I like so much that smile...

What an exemplary character he is??
To me, Murali is a legend.... 💪

Thank you for reading my post..

@sandupi it's a nice article. No doubt, he is the best bowler in test cricket for sure. He has a nice smile always in his face, but when he is bowling look at his eyes.
And at the times when the was treated for illegal bowling, captain Arjuna nad the rest of the team has to be mentioned. They were a great support for him
