Longevity Project II: What and how to eat on a Keto Diet
The Ketogenic Diet is meant to accompany intermittent fasting. The object is to go into ketosis (you start to metabolize your own fat). Carbohydrates are simple to process, so you want to reduce the number of carbs that you eat. Next is the fats in your diet. Once they are processed, your body will look at fat reserves in your liver. Finally, your body will enter ketosis and will start metabolizing fat from your entire body. If you have a belly, it will be the last thing to disappear.
To do this, you want to have a long period of time where you do not eat. I typically will not eat breakfasts. If your last food at night is at 18:00 (6:00 pm), eating at noon means that you have gone for 18 hours. This is almost the bare minimum. You enter into the realm of optimum fat burning if you limit your eating period to four hours.
Before attempting this, I suggest that you eat either a clean Keto (less than 20 g of carbohydrates) or carnivore (only eating meat) for three days. There are microorganisms in your stomach and intestines that emit chemicals that signal your brain that you are hungry. After about three days, these organism are so reduced, that fasting is not difficult.
This video gives some suggestions on how and what to eat.
