World Press Freedom Day is celebrated on May 3 every year. This day was established by UNESCO in 1993 to commemorate the Windhoek Declaration on the Development of a Free Press, adopted on 3 May 1991 in Windhoek, Namibia.

The purpose of World Press Freedom Day is to raise awareness about the importance of press freedom, commemorate journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty ,and support independent media as an important cornerstone of democracy.

Each year, a different theme is chosen to commemorate World Press Freedom Day ,with the theme for 2023 being “Freedom of the Press in Times of Crisis: Supporting Independent Journalism as a Key Pillar of Democracy”.

It is important to observe World Press Freedom Day to ensure that the right to freedom of the press is respected and protected ,and to highlight the importance of independent journalism in supporting democracy, transparency and accountability.

Perhaps I can recommend commemorating World Environment Day which falls on June 5 every year. This day aims to raise awareness about environmental issues ,and encourage action to protect our earth.

There are many environmental issues that are of concern today, such as climate change, habitat destruction and loss of biodiversity ,air and water pollution ,use of renewable energy ,and reduction of waste and waste. Therefore, I recommend commemorating World Environment Day by holding various events and activities aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues and encouraging concrete actions to protect our earth.

Activities that can be carried out include social campaigns, environmental cleaning, tree planting, seminars and discussions ,as well as fundraising to support sustainable environmental projects. By commemorating World Environment Day ,we can make a positive contribution to safeguarding our earth and encourage people to act collectively to protect our planet for future generations.
