Welcome my friend to the S4-W1 of steemit engagement challenge. I hope we all back after the short pause with lots of knowledge to impact even more. I bring to you my article on the topic which has been carefully selected by the Steem Cameroon team which is: My view on Cyber Bullying.

Introduction

If you are are someone one who's been keen to the media, you must have come across cases of online bullying. If you doubting about what cyberbullying means, don't worry we are getting there soon.

Bullying is confronting or engaging someone by physical or virtual method. face to face confrontation is Physical intimidation while intense online confrontation is cyberbullying. Now we have a clue on bullying, Let's discuss on cyberbullying.

My view on Cyber Bullying

From the brief introduction, I mention two categories of bullying, which but we will focus on cyberbullying. I will elaborate more detail now on Cyberbullying or intimidation.

What Is My Understanding On Cyber Bullying?

Cyberbullying in simple words is the process by which someone is being impeached online with the use of internet and associated technological services such as smartphones, computers, toys and also lot more. it could take place on social media which is the most frequent platform experiencing cyberbullying or by other means.

Some of the cyberbullying cases around us include.

• Telling lies or spreading rumours about someone or posting mean photos or videos of them on the social media

• Sending hurtful, threatening messages, images or videos through messaging platforms such as Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook, tweeter etc.

• Hacking or Impersonating someone and sending irrelevant messages to others on their behalf or using fake identity

Perpetrators of cyberbullying indulge in these act, maybe as a means of revenge to some one or persons, or simply for their personal benefits. Also may be use by other as an act of terror or, for fun(cases of Tech kids).

Overall statistics show that 36.5% of the globes population has experience cyber bullying and taking on analysis, it's observe that 95% of teenagers are connected online and About 85% of this teenage have experience cyberbullying among themselves or external peers. Check for more here

Have I Ever Been A Victim Or Perpetrator Of Cyber Bullying?

36.5% of cyberbullying cases, I definitely fall among this percentage because I have been a victim of cyberbullying. Going back to the last point I specify above on reasons for Cyber bullying,

"Hacking or Impersonating someone and sending mean messages to others on their behalf or using fake accounts."

My case was on facebook and Instagram as both my accounts were hacked, since I linked the two platforms.

I notice I was unable to login on these platforms. The hacker use my account to request money from my friends and family members.

When I was called to verify if it was me by some of my friends. I said No. From there I tried to recover the account but the hacker was skilled. So I simply create a different account and notify all my contacts and then report the account to Facebook and it was blocked. I later recover my IG but fb was gone.

An Instance Wherein I Or Someone I Know Felt Bullied In Cyberspace, And What Spiked Such A Feeling.

I discuss my only case above But then I know of someone who's been a victim of cyberbullying. At the time I was living with my Aunt, back in 2020, She's a nurse at the Bamenda Regional Hospital. She was assigned to work on a Coronavirus project in Baffousam at the time.

This project had to take a whole week to complete and she had to travel to the said town. So lucky for her sister live in the town so she didn't have to border about lodging.

Her project starts on Monday and was completing on Friday. Everything went well and on the final day, the evening. She got her mobile money alert. Which was pay due for the project participants.

Immediately the alert notify on her phone, someone called, a fraud star. Pretending to be the service provider agent. And from her explanation the way he spoke, she was convinced he's an agent. So this guy after discussing with her for a while told her her mobile money service require some updates.

So the man gave her a code as she dial for rectification, he program her in step to carry out the operation and after some time he said it's time for her to input Her pin to complete the update. Immediately she input the code, her account was emptied. She immediately check her message box and so that she has confirm a transaction of 200,000 frs. In steem price is
1378 Steem.

How Did This Encounter Affect This Said Person?

When my aunt arrived home, she was looking so exhausted and tired and when we ask her how was her treap, she started by narrating the incidence and we became shock as well at the instance and the was nothing she could do either.

Her cry was that she just travel and work for nothing and considering the nature of the project, It was so strenuous and time consuming. She was emotional distressed a bit but nevertheless, she learnt her lesson. Since then no more of such cases have occured again even though other have been trying same strategy on her.

How Safe Do I Feel On Steemit? And Have I Ever Felt Bullied At Any Purpose In Time? (on Steemit)

I believe Steemt is a much safe place for me as online bullying is concern. I am the sole owner my private keys and I have followed the various procedures in achievement 2 to keep them. so far Steemit is cool and I make I'm working just according to the rules not to feel left out at any point in time.

What Lessons Did I Gain From Such A Scenario? And What Advice Can I Give To My Audience?

I mention two cases of bully in my context above and I will start with my case. I learned never to use weak password for my login details as they could quickly be guessed. Also I improve on the security of my account by adding my email to my new account and enable two factor authentication to avoid further attacks.

My advice to anyone reading this is that they should head to their account right now and strengthen their login details not to fall victim like myself. And do not by any means use your phone number as your password in any platform.

Lastly from my aunt's case, I advise everyone to be vigilant and take note of fake agent around. Any operation requiring your pin online or on phone is a fraud. Beware.

CONCLUSION

FInally I conclude by saying Cyberbullying is evil, an act of terror and should be heavily condemned at any point in time. I have been a victim, other are currently victimized and I urge everyone to engage on the forefront to fight cyberbullying. Don't fail to report any case of Cyberbullying.
