Creative Writing Contest Vol. 15 | Education: What do you think about the number of subjects and content of subjects students study in Cameroon?

Good day fellow steemians and trust you are doing well, education has always been the back bone if every society how ever, this day the days it's really really something else with regards the number of subject thought in our schools.
When we use to grow up some times in the 90's I remember going to primary school and doing just around 7 subject and we usually close by 2 pm , english, French, mathematics, geography, religion, general nkwolegde, and history.
In these days we use to have serious extracurricular activities which was an alternative way of learning and we studied hard and passed the same exams which we still have today with good grades

More so we usually have just a few textbook , in all those days to me the number of subject were few and the quality of education was really high and the cost then was very affordable.
This days I am really worried with how things have changed in the academic sphere of cameroon were , pupils and students now study more than 17 and 15 subject respectively.
My thoughts on this is that the number of subjects now are too much Making students to over work themselves on ready and spend long hour's in school studying, with regards the content , it is not creative at all as we still study names of ministers, and other useless information in modern times, I I strongly hold the opinion that the quality of this content are really low and frustrating most times to the students to learn, while the number of subject are just so many.
This is making education I cameroon very costly as a parent will spend over 8000 fcfc/$160 plus only on books ...and the kids will still have to study for very long years to achieve a single certificate.
In all I will say that our education system is very lax and not geared towards solving any problems.

Education in cameroon really has a problem

I think you have a strong point. In the past we studied less and did more practical work but today, they study more with no practical work. I take for instance Domestic Science which was studied in the past, pupils could cook as from Class 7 but today, they study Home Economics and Nutrition and can't even cook nor practice balanced diets. I think things have changed but its both ways. The cost too is another issue. Less costly in the past and more costly in the future.
