My Short Movie Script: Cartoon Animation (Save The Village)

Hello everyone, how are you all doing over here?, Its been such an amazing week and believe me, it can only get better and better. I will be participating in this week's short movie contest and I believe you will have the best of time reading through this piece.

My community (Ikot Ideh), in Essien Udim LGA, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria is faced with the problem of good drinkable water. It has been on like this since I was born and yet nothing has been done to salvage this situation.

Also, we are faced with the issue of total blackouts on many occasions that can't be counted. The government has so neglected this area and I wish something could be done about it one day.

The early morning birds were chirping, the cry of a baby was heard in a small village called Okpontu. This village has been according to history passed down cursed not to see sunlight for life. They have prayed for a messiah everyday that will liberate them.

Okpontu was once a happy place to live, everyone living there were accommodating, they will farm together, harvest together but then, the worst happened when the sunlight suddenly dimed on them and they began experiencing so much darkness, for some reasons, they never knew what caused it, but it was at last revealed by the god's that one of the god's maiden was raped and killed in the village shrine by an unknown villager.

The village water was so dirty that the only source of drinkable water was from one well which was already drying up slowly. Ekpenyong was born into this dark world, he grew up really fast and was so concerned about the plight of hi hometown. Some days, he will have sleepless night trying to think of a way to salvage this situation.

Nobody could save Okpontu, everybody were waiting for their own day death will call and they answer, but Ekpenyong had to change this course. One day, he went out to get water from the well at the outskirt of the village when he saw a very old woman, he paused to help her carry her load to her hut, though it was a bit far and was even at the border of the village, he never cared as long as he was able to give this woman an helping hand.

After dropping the load at the woman's hut, she was moved by such act and decided to pay for it, but Ekpenyong never took the money,he declined it, the woman kept persuading and Ekpenyong kept insisting. At some point, the woman dipped hand inside a bag, removed an object Ekpenyong never understood and gave it to him, she advised him to place it in the village shrine and drop the remaining in the village river.

He turned to leave but when he turned his back, he couldn't find a hut neither the woman, he was scared and ran back home to tell his father what had happened, Attah on hearing this left immediately to the spot but couldn't find anything, so he escorted Ekpenyong to the village shrine and the village river, Ekpenyong did as instructed.

Just before they got back home, the sun started coming up gently, bit by bit, Okpontu experienced day light they have lost for over two decades. It was later revealed that the mystery woman was the mother of the maiden that was raped and killed and she was the only person that can heal the land if a single act of kindness was done to her roaming spirit.

Ekpenyong was honoured alongside Attah his father. Okpontu became that beautiful harmonizing village it used to be before darkness ruled over the villages. Till today, the statue of Ekpenyong is raised at the town hall of Okpontu.
