Good evening, esteemed Steemians in the Cameroon community. Receive my humble greetings and I hope you are all doing well. Let us now move on to science, specifically proteins, and even more specifically spider silk. Today’s post will be a brief introduction, and a more detailed one will be discussed later on. So stay tuned and follow my account for more updates.

Introduction

Spider silk is a natural fibrous polypeptide, polymeric protein, and is in the scleroprotein group, which also encompasses collagen and keratin, which are proteins that provide structure in living organisms.

The main protein found in spider silk is fibroin, which is a combination of the proteins spidroin 1 and spidroin 2(which differ mainly in their content of proline and tyrosine) and contains about 42% glycine and 25% alanine as the major amino acids, but the exact composition depends on the species and the diet.

Spiders produce several types of silk, such as dragline and capture silk. Spider silk is important because of its maximum mechanical strength, biocompatibility, biodegradability, elasticity, and very low immunogenicity.

Spider silk has numerous mechanical properties and applications in fields such as medicine and the military. In this work, we are going to explore spider silk fibroin by presenting the chemical composition of spider silk fibroin and thereby presenting the chemical composition of spidroin proteins.

We are also going to see the different types of spider silk produced by spiders and their mechanical properties, the structural and functional relationships followed by the potential domains of application, and finally, we are going to talk about the different research made on spider silk fibroin and the limitations of its production.

This was a brief summary of spider silk. In our next post, we shall discuss the properties and different types of spider silk.
Hello, sir @juichi and @pea09, Please come and give us your impressions on this topic.

I will stay open to any suggestions in the comment section.

Stay tuned
