THE SHOPPING GAME : 16Th July 2020, My Mini Shopping Grocery

in Steem Africa4 years ago (edited)

Hello, today is Thursday 16th July 2020. It is the main market day where all villages around come with their goods such as maize, rice, beans, yam, fowls, Guinea fowls, okro garden eggs, groundnut, soya beans, cabbage, carrots, palm oil, avocado, and all kinds of food that you can think of. Since last 3 weeks, the market had been very poor and bored due to the law Assembly passed not to allow anyone to sell or buy in the market. This is prevent further spread of Covid - 19 pandemic from the District. But this still raises a question to the people in this area that, what will they survive on if they don't sell or buy during this Thursday market? Because, most of these villagers are eating from hand to mouth, some only get money but selling a fowl, goat or guinea. It's really very hard for that peasant farm at his village to get bulk money to purchase salt or soap if he doesn't sell. Their hopes are in this Thursday market. Aside this, they have bad roads to even convey their goods to market especially at this season of heavy rain fall.

I see this situation of disallowing people to market on Thursdays to have been solved if they decide to spread the sellers all over some vantage places in town. This will prevent the crowds being converged at one area which would be a threat of Covid - 19 infection. But today when I moved out to make some mini grocery shopping, the market was bored, only few sellers were spread around corners to sell. Even they were hidden, since they were not allowed to make selling of their goods. This has led items become very expensive to buy. Only 3 tubers of yam was sold for Ghc 20.00/ $3.4 dollars/ $23.6 Steem. I had to buy at the price, at ordinary days you can get some to buy. This is very expensive for me, because last time I bought some I had 4 tubers.

I don't have palm oil I needed to half bottle. I normally buy 5 litres normal oil and palm oil as in this display, but there were not enough here, they are only measuring in bottles. But at larger supper market stores you will get even 10 to 20 litres.

The half bottle of the palm oil cost Ghc3.00 only / $0.51 dollars/ $3.54 Steem. This is to used for some few days so that I get larger litres bottle to buy. I could have bought larger litres but I was afraid of it being low quality.

I bought some few vegetables like onion and kontomire for Ghc 5.00 / $0.85 dollars/ $5.9 Steem. These vegetables are good for our health, they boost our immune systems to fight against Covid - 19. I went further through some corner on the road side, where one of my seller of corn and cassava dough is located. I bought everything to sum up to Gh c 5.00/ 0.85 dollars/ $5.9 Steem. I always buy this food because it's very economical and nutritious to my health status. Even the corn dough can be used as porridge, when you add sugar and you get your slide bread. Maize has so many uses.

Because most of these items were sold from these small table sellers at the corners of the road side, I could exactly give the direction of where they can be found, they are even scattered. No receipt were given too.

I brought all these items in the house and kept them in my store room as you can see in the display here.

Summary of the cost of items in Ghana cedis, US Dollars & Steem:

The yam, palm oil, onion, kontomire, corn & cassava dough all cost = Ghc 33.00/ $5.61 Dollars/ $38.94 Steem.

Hey man
Its hard to wonder what people will buy to eat if there no market like you say - that's crazy surely they could spread it out over a few days?

Your shopping day is far different from my ones, are your larger supermarkets closed?

Also i noticed the link down below on your post is incorrect spelling

Hear also our main market closed, so all vegetables and fruits become double price.

Your yam looking so beautiful, Hear we get round shape yam, no available long size yam. Hope it is also having good taste.

Enjoy your day, Thanks for sharing your shopping hear.

It's rather unfortunate that things get very expensive this days, this has cut down the quantity of items we wish to buy. Thanks for your support.

Oh that's really good idea now for maintaining our expenses. Take care of you.

This is so wonderful,i have seen those food items in my country too, nice shopping.

Thanks for your support and comment.

If the peasant farmers and the small scale traders won't be able to sell, then also their business will bust and they will die. The emotional suffering will be even more. So imposing complete restriction at this point should not be there. The administration should chalk out a different plan. We have already passed 6 months of COVID crisis. So at least after 6 months, a complete shutdown should not be there.

You are right, buying 5 litre of oil at one go is always better and in a single pack, it is economical when you compare it with 1 litre of the pack.

Corn has, of course, many uses and benefits too. Nice to see that on your shopping day.

Steem on.

That is really true. If peasant farmers aren't able to bring their produces and buyers aren't getting anything to buy, then where lies the survival of the the people? Thanks for your proof of read and commenting.

My pleasure.

Amazing shopping by a proud father. I love your shopping, bro. We are known for this in Africa. The market setting is not different from what we have here in Nigeria.

Cheers and keep steeming.

Wow! I see, that's really great, we have similar setting as Nigeria? By the way thanks for your love and support!

Sure, everything I saw there on your pictures are sold here too.

The informal sector is not well streamlined and very organized that's why you can't be issued a receipt from any seller there. Glad to see the state of the market in Ghana. This is a nice and simple choice of food. It's wise to buy foods that can boost up your immune system to fight the Covid-19.

Thanks so much for sharing.

Sure!, food is our fuel as humans,we need to get nice food. Thanks for visiting my blog.

I like the way you take your pictures. Since it's difficult to get receipt for those items, you provided a complete evidence through the pictures. Nice one bro.

That is really true. Some items are very difficult to get receipt. Thanks very much.

Congratulations, you are a winner in The Shopping Game.

Here is an extra upvote to cover the cost of your shopping.
